Monte E. Spry, 81, passed away April 21, 2019 at his home in Jasper. Monte was born March 31, 1938 in Webb City to Monte L. and Doris “Klein” Spry.
He was a lifetime resident of Jasper County. In addition to owning and operating Spry Ceramics for 20 years, he also worked at Big Smith, Jasper R-5 School District and 14 years at the Carthage R-9 School District. Monte served as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent at Center Point Christian Church. After he retired he collected and repaired bikes, many of which he donated to the Wyandotte Indian Nation.
Monte was united in marriage to Barbara Stump on June 27, 1964 in Carthage; she survives.
Monte is also survived by two sons, Douglas Spry (Susan) and Danny Spry (Vicky), both of Jasper; one daughter, Melissa Smith (David) of Carthage; three brothers, Jerry Spry of Carthage, Tom Spry (Robyn) of Mt. Zion, IL and David Spry (Cheryl) of Diamond; one sister, Mary Jane Talley (Bill) of Carthage; ten grandchildren, Weston, Justin, Landon, Salisha, Isaac, Sierra, Cheyanna, Jaxon, Brittany and Amaya; six great grandchildren, Emersyn, Aiden, Hunter, Madelyn, Leigha and Timothy.
Monte was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Elaine Wheat, and one sister-in-law, Shirley Spry.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2019 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fasken Cemetery.
Contributions in his honor may be to Ozark Christian College, Carthage Crisis Center or Cookson Hills Ministry in care of Ulmer Funeral Home.
