Ruth M. Hawkins was born October 13, 1923 in Marionville, Missouri, the daughter of William Cecil and Lemma Mae (Marler) Hammer. She entered into rest on April 16, 2019 in Neosho, following an extended illness at the age 95.
Ruth was a lifelong area resident and prior to her marriage she worked as a bookkeeper for the family business, Hammer Brothers Sign Co and then was a full time homemaker. Ruth traveled all over the world with her bluegrass music and was inducted into the Old Time Music Hall of Fame, she was a member of the Hammer Sisters and a member of Dave and the Prairie Sweethearts. She was a member of Neosho Calvary Baptist Church.
Ruth and William Buford Hawkins were married on May 15, 1950 in Bentonville, Arkansas and he preceded her in death on March 19, 2006.
She is survived by three children, Joye Nottage and husband, Kent of Crystal River, Florida; Shauna Bryant and husband, Bobby of Neosho and Bruce Hawkins and wife, Jana of Joplin; grandchildren, Michael Gideon, Tamara Tamblyn, Karin Nottage, Kaiti Hoover, Jason Bryant, Christin Sappington, Dakota Hawkins and Chelsea Hawkins; one sister, Rosemary Pogue and husband, Hermey of Neosho and sister in law, Wilma Hammer of Neosho.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila G. Hoover; two brothers, Cecil Hammer and David Hammer and a sister, Lillian Baker.
