(From Buchanan Funeral Home)Eugene Emmitt “Gene” Roetto, 76, of Monett, MO, passed away on Sunday morning, February 7, 2021, while at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO.
Gene was born on August 21, 1944 at home in rural Barry County, son of the late Emmitt John Roetto and Helen Margaret (Seufert) Roetto.
He grew up helping his father on the family farm and attended school at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Pulaskifield, where he was also a member of the church. He later became a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Monett and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
For twenty-two years, Gene served his country honorably in the United States Army National Guard, 203rd Engineering Battalion, Pierce City. For over forty years, Gene worked for the City of Monett Water Department. Gene was an avid gardener, growing tomatoes and cucumbers.
On February 10, 1968, Gene married Marilyn Sue Witt at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. They would be celebrating fifty-three years on Wednesday. To this union, Gene and Marilyn were blessed with four children.
Gene is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of the home; three sons, Chris (Michelle) Roetto, of McKinney, TX, David (Lisa) Roetto, of Fayetteville, GA, Dennis (Terri) Roetto, of Lowell, AR; Amanda Roetto, of Bel Air, MD; seven grandchildren, Ashleigh, Amelia, Ashton, Isabella and Annalise Roetto, Shannan (Jason) King and James (Ann) Eimer; one brother, Paul Roetto, of Tonopah, AZ; four sisters, Mary Kathryn (Gary) Aleck, Mulberry, AR, Joan Maples, Diamond, MO, Pauline (Ron) Smith, Milton, FL and Rosemary (Larry) Scroggs, Monett; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Friends may pay their respects from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Buchanan Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 11th St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Monett, MO. Father Rahab Isidor will be officiating. Interment and military honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Monett. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Lawrence Catholic Church or School. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home.
