(From Parker Mortuary)Carolyn Ruth Hayes, 81, of Carl Junction, passed away Friday, April 2, 2021 in the comfort of her home.
Carolyn was born August 26, 1939 in Beaumont, Texas to Delbert Lyle and Edna Ruth (Tiner) Ruggles. She graduated from Berlin High School in Chillicothe, Missouri. On May 1, 1960, Carolyn was united in marriage to Walter E. Hayes, III.
Carolyn earned her nursing license and worked as a registered nurse at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Following retirement, she and Walter enjoyed traveling in their RV across the U.S. She especially loved to visit the little town of Gunnison, Colorado. Time spent traveling was always desired – from family vacations to spending winters in Florida to taking international cruises – she loved it all.
Carolyn also enjoyed singing and listening to Southern gospel music and she was a member of the Joplin Family Worship Center. She especially loved her family and the time she was able to dedicate to them. One thing she was never fond of was cooking, so Walter often took care of that. They were a true husband and wife team and they have left a lasting example of what a marriage should be.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Raymond Theodore Ruggles; and her daughter-in-law, Ginger Hayes.
She is lovingly survived by her husband of nearly 61 years, Walter Hayes, III; three children, Walter Hayes, IV (Regina), Roy Hayes (Crystal), and Janna Halverson (Dan); eight grandchildren, Brandie (Travis), Walter V (Lindsey), Richard (Amber), Christina (Jose), Kelsey (Christian), Kara, Jasper, and Kyra; nine great-grandchildren; Tyson, Nevin, Jovie, Bree, Will, Kale, Layla, Lincoln, and Logan; three siblings, Pat Hallacy, Kate Pinelo (Victor), and John Ruggles; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Parker Mortuary with Pastor Daniel H. Wermuth, II officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation at the mortuary from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Joplin Family Worship Center.
