Betty Graskemper

(From Parker Mortuary)

Betty Lou Graskemper, age 92 of Joplin, Missouri, passed away peacefully at Freeman Hospital in Joplin on Monday, May 20, 2024 following several months of declining health. Betty was born April 13, 1932 in Joplin to the late Basil and Edith (Young) Clark, living most of her life in the Joplin area.

Betty owned and operated her own daycare for over 30 years in Joplin. If she wasn’t helping to take care of her own family, Betty would be babysitting the neighbor kids as well. She was a genuine mother at heart, even opening her home to many children through the foster care program.

In her spare time, Betty could be found close to where the fish were biting or putting together beautiful crocheted pieces. She even had an ornery streak and would have her grandson take her to do donuts in the grocery store parking lot when the snow would cover the ground.

On October 21, 1968, Betty married Paul Graskemper in Joplin. He preceded her in death on July 19, 2016. Also, preceding Betty in passing are her parents; brothers, Max Clark, Earl Clark, Allen Clark and Carl Dean Clark; sister, Lois Rolan; grandchild, Shane Gibby and two great grandchildren, Blaine and Zachery Gibby.

Those left to honor Betty’s life are sons, Chris Graskemper of Joplin, Doug Graskemper (Amy) of Carl Junction, Ben Graskemper (Tasha) of Grove, Oklahoma and Anthony Rayney of Pierce City; daughters, Sherry Bates (Keith) of Grove, Marilyn Doty of Sarcoxie, Royce Ann Ruddick of Joplin and Cammy Graskemper of Pierce City; brother, Tommy Clark (Martha) of Carterville; sister, Polly Melton (Kenny) of Duquesne; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, plus many extended family and friends.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 22nd from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Parker Chapel. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 23rd at 3:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary with burial to follow at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Webb City, Missouri.

Funeral services are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
