Don Striegel

(From Parker Mortuary)

Don Alden Striegel, 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Joplin, MO on March 21, 2024.

Don was born October 30, 1934, in Joplin, MO to William and Florence Striegel in Joplin, Missouri. Don was one of five children, Dolores Reaves, Barbara Striegel, Joe Striegel, and Alfred Striegel. They all precede him in death. Don attended St. Peter’s High School before enlisting into the U.S Navy. He served from 1951 - 1955. He honorably served in the Korean War. Don was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.

Don met his soulmate and love of his life, Lanette Tonya Bullard. They were married 65 years. Don claimed that him and Lanette were “made for each other.” Some of their favorite things to do together were traveling, dancing, and spending time with their family and friends. She survives. Don and Lanette had three children, David Jason Striegel, and his wife, Amy Striegel, of Centerville, KS, Michael Alden Striegel, and his wife, Sally Striegel, of Carterville, MO and Jana Lee Richardson, and her husband, David Richardson, of Joplin, MO; from them comes 8 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren, they all survive.

Don was a jack of all trades, he worked at Premier Turbine for 40 years and retired as the head of engineering. He also was Commander of the VFW Post 534 twice from 1994-1995 and 2002-2003. He bartended and ran the bingo hall. In Don’s spare time he loved to hunt, fish, cook, work in his garage and spend time working and admiring his yard. Don will also be remembered by his famous catfish fry’s and all the meals he cooked for his loved ones. Don was a lover of all animals and took care of many cats and dogs throughout his years.

If we could sum up Don in a few sentences, we would say he was a man of his word and was always ready to help out his family and friends when needed. He was loyal and trustworthy, and you could always count on him. Don’s legacy and memory will be carried on in the years to come by his family and he will be missed tremendously.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Joplin with entombment and full military honors to follow at Ozark Memorial Park in Joplin with Father Joseph Weidenbenner, Celebrant. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Tuesday at the church beginning at 9:00 AM.
