Layton Straw

Layton Leroy Straw, Jr. 88, of Stotts City, Missouri, passed away Monday, May 27, 2024 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri surrounded by his loving family.

Layton was born on May 4, 1936 in rural Barton County, Missouri, to the union of the late Layton Leroy Straw, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Pew Straw. 

On February 14, 1954 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Emma Mary Nichols Straw. Together they shared seventy wonderful years of memories. 






Layton was engaged in full time farming and was a very hard worker and a devoted family man and loved his family dearly. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He enjoyed farming, fishing and horses. He will truly be missed by those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Mark Straw and Luke Straw; siblings, George Straw, Albert Straw, Floyd Straw, Louise Ott and Frances Roberts; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Roberts, Raymond Ott and K.D. Archer; and sister-in-law, Gay Straw.

Layton is survived by his wife, Emma Straw; sons, Layton Straw, III and wife, Rhonda, of Webb City, Tim Straw and wife, Linda, of Stotts City, Lester Straw and wife, Elizabeth, of Stotts City, Eli Straw and wife, Sally, of Wentworth, Loyd Straw and wife, Pamela, of Sheldon, Zack Straw and wife, Teri, of Sarcoxie; stepson, Scott Brown and wife, Sharon, of Lebanon; sister, Esther Schubert Archer; thirty-three grandchildren; eighty-one great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other family and friends.








Funeral services for Layton are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie, with Pastor Troy Cron officiating. Burial will follow at Cave Spring Cemetery. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers will be Layton Straw, IV., Chad Straw, Tim Straw, Jr., Jefry Straw, Brandon Wirsig and Johnny Straw.
