Randy Rogers

(From Midland Cremation Society)

Randy Clay Rogers, age 76, of Joplin, MO, died May 20, 2024, at home after a lengthy illness. He was born September 7, 1947, in Seneca, MO, to Warren and Genevieve Ackerson Rogers. He married Penelope Patterson on November 22, 1971, in Joplin, MO.

He graduated in 1965 from Seneca High School where he was a proud member of the 1964 undefeated football team, served with the United States Air Force in the Pacific Northwest, and graduated from Missouri Southern. He worked at J.E. Patterson Plumbing forover 40 years.

Dad enjoyed slalom skiing and fishing weekends at Grand Lake, golfing at Briarbrook, Fourth of July BBQ and fireworks extravaganzas, St. Louis Cardinals Opening Day, Mizzou football and basketball, and legendary Valleyview Drive neighborhood parties. Being at Game 7 when the Cardinals won the 2011 World Series was one of the highlights of his life.

Dad will be remembered for reading aloud the Christmas story everyChristmas morning, calling the morning radio show on our birthdays, teaching us to drive a stick shift in an old shop truck, writing weekly letters to us while we were away in college, sharing his humor, gardening at the farm, and interjecting history lessons.

He was known as "Papa" to his grandchildren and made frequent trips to see them. He had a deep love for animals and owned many throughout his life. He was devoted caregiver for our mother until her death in 2019.

A special thank you to his VA medical team, Compassus Hospice, Freeman Hospital, Home Instead, Silver Creek Assisted Living, and Wildwood for their supportive care. Dad will miss his dear childhood Seneca friends of seven decades, and his Briarbrook, Joplin Supply, and Southern Hills friends. He cherished your visits and phone calls. Dad always looked forward to his weekly visits with his brother Lanny, and his nearly daily phone calls with his lifelong best friend Ralph Gray.

He is survived by his daughter, Brandy Rogers DeWeese (Blair) and grandchildren Noah, Abi, and Ruah in Seattle, Washington; son Roman Rogers (Cassy) of Kansas City, and granddaughter Ashley; and his dear brother Lanny Rogers (Nancy) in Joplin.

He was preceded in death by his parents Warren and Genevieve Rogers, brothers Denny and Terry, and our beloved mother Penelope, his wife of nearly 48 years.

He requested "no ceremony, no flowers, no cards", and instead would have wanted you play some Oldies and be with the people you love.

His ashes will be privately interred at Ozark Memorial Park next to our mother at a later date.
