Marge Freeman

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Margaret Allene Freeman, 84, who left us on Thursday, May 16th.

Affectionately known as Marge, and even more affectionaly known as MeeMaw, she was a cherished member of the Freeman family. Born in Iron Mountain, Missouri, to the late Mr. Glenn and Mrs. Irene (Gross) Freeman. Marge was a beloved sister to Glenda Johnson, Festus, Ray (Martha) Freeman, Benton, Arkansas, Jerry (Donna) Freeman, Farmington, Sara Edmundson, Hillsboro, and Elaine (Dennis) Gannon, DeSoto, and many nieces and nephews.

Marge was preceded in death by her son, Scott Lynn Unice, brothers Wayne Freeman, Jack (Erleen) Freeman, John (Sue) Freeman, and sister June Ann (Joe) Blanton.

Marge is survived by daughter, Lea Anna and son-in-law, who she considered as a son, Martin Warren White.

Marge moved to Joplin October 5, 2014, to be closer to Lea Anna. Prior to her move she was a long-time resident of Farmington, Missouri.

Marge wore many career hats in her lifetime. After graduating from high school, she would ride the train from Bismarck, Missouri, to St. Louis to work at The Monsanto Company. After raising Lea Anna and Scott, she entered back into the workforce as the secretary to the superintendent of Bismarck schools, Golde's Department Store, Farmington Schools, and in the Library of Mineral Area College. The jobs she held dearest to her heart was her employment with Iron Mountain Forge, which later was purchased by Rubbermaid, changing its name to Little Tikes Commercial. In addition to working full-time for Little Tikes, she worked part-time as a waitress at The Catfish Kettle.

Before her retirement, Marge worked for the Turner Family at Belgrade State Bank, Farmington. She was the first person you would see as anyone who entered the bank. She worked for the Turners for seven years always stating how much she loved her job but NOT cleaning the popcorn machine. She loved the interaction with the customers, seeing friends that she "grew up" with from the St. Francois County area but more so the friendships she formed with the employees and customers.

Marge was also known for her homemade angel food cakes. You were quite the lucky person if you were gifted a cake from Marge. If someone was ill, having a bad day, going through some tough times, she would always say, "I'm going to take them a cake." Just four weeks prior to her passing, she told Lea Anna that she had to learn to bake an angel food cake, because she would have to "carry this on."

Marge was a faithful member of the Joplin Church of Christ. She loved her church family very much.

A funeral service is planned for Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Joplin Church of Christ, Joplin, Missouri. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 pm. Committal of ashes will be Saturday, May 25, 2024, 2:00 pm at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Bismarck, Missouri.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Church of Christ building fund.

Arrangements under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory - Joplin, Missouri.
