Martha Christiansen

Martha Anne (Belt) Christiansen, age 95, passed away at Medicalodge Of Columbus, Kansas, Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

Martha was born to Lloyd C. and Martha Elizabeth (Hurt) Belt on Saturday, November 17, 1928, in Columbus, Kansas. She married Galen Christiansen August 4, 1947 in Columbus. He preceded her in death April 21, 2022. 

A true example of strength, at age 50, Martha went back to school, attending Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, and graduated from Franklin Tech in Joplin, MO. 






Martha worked as an LPN at St. John’s Hospital in Joplin, Missouri until her retirement. For many years, Martha faithfully donated blood, a total of 16 gallons, which showed the love and care that she had for others. For as long as she was able, Martha loved reading, gardening, and quilting. She was a homemaker who raised four children, and she was an avid KC Chiefs fan.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her daughter Ann Ayers, and her brother Charles Belt.







Surviving Martha are two sons: Todd G. Christiansen (wife- Shelby Scott) of Columbus, KS, and Clay C. Christiansen (wife- Karen Kornacki) of Merriam, KS; one daughter: Lisa Christiansen-Howard (husband- Laddie) of Columbus, KS; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren; and one brother: David Belt of Columbus, KS.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus, KS. No services are scheduled at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to Columbus First United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.
