Jesse Gates

Jesse L. Gates, 75, Joplin, MO passed into eternal rest April 3, 2024 at his home.

Jesse Leonard Gates was born February 15, 1950 in Fort Scott, KS the son of Olin Jesse and Sylva Nell (Harvey) Gates. Jesse was a world traveler and had worked all over the world. He formerly worked for AJ Diani in Santa Maria, CA where he was a heavy equipment operator until retiring in 2001. 

Jesse loved to hunt, fish, being outdoors, restoring old cars, grilling, making homemade noodles with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and especially spending time with family. Jesse was a strong willed person and loved to joke around. He was a member of the International Operating Engineers Local 12 Arroyo Grande, CA, the Shawnee Skies Shooting Complex and the Seneca First Baptist Church.


Jesse Leonard Gates married Paula Marie Roberds May 17, 1969 and she survives.

Additional survivors include one son; J.B. Gates and wife Samantha, Joplin, MO; grandchildren Alan Doty and wife Liz (Ackerson) Doty, Seneca, MO, Mathew Doty, Joplin, MO Kaylee Doty, Seneca, MO; great-grandchildren Aria Doty and Elliott Doty and a host of extended family and friends.

The body has been taken for cremation. Memorial services will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the Seneca First Baptist Church with Bro. Rod VanGorkom officiating.
