(From Rupp Funeral Home)Sylva J. Summers 68, of St Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at her home. Sylva was born February 1, 1957 in Ottawa, KS, daughter of Retha and Donald Lewis. She graduated from Central High School, class of 1975.
On December 29, 1977, she married Robert "Bob" Summers in St. Joseph. In 1977 Sylva earned her nursing degree while residing at Carder Hall, and began her nursing career at Methodist Medical Center. She worked in the ICU as a Registered Nurse at Methodist Hospital and Heartland Hospital. She also worked in Cameron at the Veterans Home, and retired from Plasma Biological Center in 2020.
Sylva was a baseball fan, especially the KC Royals. She enjoyed playing Solitaire, reading, painting, and spending time with and cooking for her family. Sylva was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include: husband, Robert "Bob" Summers of the home, children, Stacey (Tommy) Wilson of Alvin, TX, Shawn (Donna) Summers of Deer Park, TX, Jared (Enguady) Summers of St. Joseph and Kevin (Ashley) Summers of Gallatin, MO, siblings, Nina (Doug) Beaver of Diamond, MO, Beth (Eddie) James of Scotland, MO, Ed (Sarah) Lewis of Moberly, MO, Kirk (Becky) Lewis of Joplin, MO, and Daniel (Jodeana) Lewis of Webb City, MO, 12 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at Rupp Funeral Home with Pastor Eric Derks officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday at Rupp Funeral Home. Mrs. Summers will be cremated following service with Inurnment to take place at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery. To express their appreciation for the care provided, The family request memorials to Three Rivers Hospice.
