Donald Peterson

(From Parker Mortuary)

Donald James Peterson, a cherished soul known for his boundless generosity, passed away on April 3, 2025, in Joplin, Missouri, at the age of 78. He was born on December 22, 1946, in Caznovia, Wisconsin, to the late Kenneth and Martha (Way) Peterson.

After serving his country with honor in the army, Donald embarked on a career as a truck driver, a role that allowed him to crisscross the nation, sharing stories, laughter, and his infectious smile with people from all walks of life.

Donald found joy in the simple pleasures of mowing yards, pulling weeds, and growing flowers. His hands were rarely still, as he was constantly tinkering with tools, earning him the affectionate nickname "Inspector Gadget."

"Poppa Don," as he was lovingly called by just about everybody, had a heart as expansive as his toolbox. His generosity knew no bounds, and he was always the first to offer help to friends, neighbors, and even strangers. His favorite quote, "That will be a million bucks," was always delivered with a twinkle in his eye and a knowing grin.

Donald is survived by his children, Sarah Johnson (Anthony) and Frances McGee (Floyd); adopted daughter, Christi Smith, granddaughter, Sami Jo Johnson; adopted granddaughter, Lynlee; siblings, Barbara, Tom, Martha, Judi Elizabeth, Kathleen, Patrick and Joseph; his best friend, Brian Groh; beloved dog Little Bit; grand fur babies, Moose, Amelia Jane, Boomer Sooner, and Angel Biscuit.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his 1st wife, Sharon Peterson, 2nd wife, Jody Peterson, and his beloved dog, Roxy.

Arrangements are under the direct care of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, MO.
