Lewis Brooks

Lewis W. Brooks, Jr., 80, of Mexico, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Pin Oaks Living Center.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, at Arnold Funeral Home with Kevin Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation is Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.








Lewis was born October 19, 1944, in Moberly, the son of Lewis W. "Babe" Brooks Sr. and Rubye Dean, née Cartlidge. He graduated from Mexico Senior High School in 1962. On August 19, 1978, he married Kathy Noel. Lewis and Kathy had two sons, Sean and Eric. Mr. Brooks graduated from William Woods College in 1997 with a B.S. in Business Administration and was part of the first class of male graduates from the college.

Lewis worked in customer service for A.P. Green Refractories for 38 years. He then worked for Joe Maxwell in both his senate and Lt. Governor’s office.

Lewis served and participated in many local organizations. Lewis served as City Councilman and Mayor of the City of Mexico. He was previously a member of the Jaycees, Optimists, and Lions Clubs in Mexico. He served as a member of the Audrain Ambulance District Board of Directors. Lewis was active in the Audrain County Democratic Committee and served in various positions over the years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include sons, Sean Brooks of Linn, and Eric Brooks and wife, Heidi of Webb City; his sisters Teresa Clay and husband Gary of Mexico, and Carol Ann Vestal and husband, Jim of Fulton; sister-in-law Debbie Jones and her husband Steve of Paris; three grandchildren Koen and Kyler Brooks of Linn, and Taylor Brooks of Webb City; as well as nieces and nephews, Jeff Vestal and wife, Denise of Fulton, Scott Kinder and wife Samantha of Moberly, Michelle Burts and husband, Charlie of Montgomery City, Bryan Clay of Mexico, Trent Jones and wife, MacKenzie of Hallsville, and Kimberly Johnson and husband Tim of Hallsville. Lewis is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews.






 

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents Lewis W. "Babe" Brooks Sr. and his wife Norma, and Rubye Dean Palmer; sister-in-law Patricia Kinder and husband Sam; and nephews John Vestal and Brian Kinder.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or American Heart Association. They may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson Street, Mexico, MO 65265.
