(From Parker Mortuary)Mary J. Golden, 75, of De Leon, Texas, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025 at her residence in Joplin, Missouri. Mary was born March 8, 1950, in Hico, Texas to Martha Abel Burch. Robert Coy Carter later joined the family and became “daddy”. On December 24, 1971, Mary married the man God created for her, Kenneth Golden. To this union two sons were born.
Mary held many titles including mom, sister, daughter, wife, and volunteer. She graduated with honors from the social work program at Tarleton State University. After graduating she became a social worker for Alpha Omega Hospice from where she retired.
Prior to beginning her career as a social worker, she was the Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce in De Leon, Texas for a number of years. She enjoyed crafting, watching her grandchildren play sports, and the occasional glass of wine. She was a member of Saint Paul’s Methodist Church in Joplin. Mary was a proud member of the Order of the Easter Star, serving in many different roles in the organization.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martha and Coy Carter; husband, Kenneth Golden; brother, David Burch; and granddaughters, Clara Beth and Carleigh Ray Golden.
Mary is survived by son and daughter in-law, Vance and Brooke Golden of Carl Junction, Missouri; son, David Golden of Joplin Missouri; sister, Jo and husband Gene Holland of China Springs, Texas; brother, Bob and wife Doris Carter of Spring Branch Texas; grandchildren, Allison, Chance, Xavier, Lucas, and Bentlee Golden; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews; and so many loving friends.
Funeral services celebrating Mary’s life will be held Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at De Leon First United Methodist Church with Rev. Kaiya Kershaw officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, in honor of Mary.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
