(From Parker Mortuary)Jimmie “Jim” Alan Shirley born December 7, 1960 to Jim and Bernice (English) passed away April 5, 2025 in Joplin, Missouri. Jim was a graduate of Baxter Springs High School in 1979.
Preceded in death were his parents Jim and Bernice, and brother Randy Shirley of Baxter Springs, Kansas.
After working in the local area for a few years, Jim joined the U.S. Air Force where he served for 8 years before being honorably discharged. After earning his Bachelor’s Degree from Missouri Valley College, he started his next career working in Civil Service, accompanying his wife Linda on their various Air Force assignments.
Jim enjoyed watching college football, working on cars and spending time with his family and two cats, Max and Rocky.
Jim married Linda McGeever in Abilene, Texas on February 14, 1986. They were married for over 39 years, living in Abilene Texas, Mulvane Kansas, Sedalia Missouri, New Baden, Illinois and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, before moving back to Joplin, Missouri.
Jim is survived by his wife, Linda Shirley of Joplin; daughter, Christine Shirley of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Tony Shirley of Baxter Springs, KS; aunt and uncle, Mike and Susie English of Joplin; step-father, David Cooke of Joplin; and many other family and friends in the local area; plus fur babies, Max and Rocky, and grand fur babies, Elly and Winnie.
Memorial Visitation will be Friday, April 11, 2025 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Joplin Humane Society care of Parker Mortuary.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
