Bud Hunter

James A. "Bud" Hunter, III, age 83 of Galena, KS, passed away at 12:54 AM on Monday, April 7, 2025 at Brookdale College Square in Overland Park.

Bud was born on October 29, 1941 to the union of James A. Hunter, II and Mabel L. (Ford) Hunter. He grew up in the Galena area and graduated from Galena High School Class of 1959 and later earned his Associates Degree in Automotive from Pitt State University. He owned and operated Hunter Printing Company and Tri-State Transmission for many years, both in Joplin. He was a member of the Elks Club and the Kiwanis. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and working on cars.








In 1962, he married Geraldine Bradshaw. To their union were born two children, Kathy and Kent. They later divorced, and she preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, James and Mabel Hunter; one son, Kent Hunter; and Bud's long term companion, Janice Cole.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Cherney (husband, Jim) of Lees Summit, MO; two grandkids, Nicholas and Victoria Cherney; one sister, Rebecca Abram; two nephews, and one niece.







A visitation will be held at Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 14, 2025, with the funeral service immediately following at 1:30 PM. Burial will follow at Baxter Springs Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Teresa Robinson, as well as the staff at Brookdale College Square for their unwavering love, support, and care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
