Dan Webb

Dan R. Webb, age 79, was escorted by Angels from this earth into the waiting arms of Jesus on Friday, August 7, 20206 at 5:21 am. Dan lived NW of Riverton KS on Quaker Road since 1998.

Dan was born on September 12, 1947, to the union of Leroy and Betty (Hogard) Webb. He lived a short time at 1014 Dewey, Galena, KS and would later live at 1108 W 6th St, Joplin, MO. In 1952, Dan’s brother, Buddy Webb was born. Buddy also grew up in Joplin. Dan attended West Central Grade School, North Jr. High and Joplin Senior High, graduating in 1965. He joined the Marine Corps in 1967 and served for four years. After returning home from the service in 1971, he enrolled at Missouri Southern State University and got an associate’s degree with a major in Automotive Science.

Dan worked at Hammer’s DX in Galena, KS while attending college and later leased the building from his cousin, Don (Hammer) Mallett, and worked as an auto mechanic at that location for about 4 years. During that time, he moved to Kansas, married Debra K. Pittman and they had a son, Colby R. Webb. Dan would not remain a mechanic but would instead work in both law enforcement and security. He worked as a police officer at the Galena Police Dept. and later as a deputy in the Cherokee County Sheriff Dept. He retired from the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons, SK on January 10, 2012.

Dan was a member of First Assembly of God, Baxter Springs, KS and the Baxter Springs American Legion. His hobbies included bass fishing and watching wildlife.

During his time in the Marine Corps, Dan graduated in the top 10 percentile of his class from the Naval Air Training Center in Millington, TN. While in the service, he was not only a crew chief but was also a Quality Control Inspector within the power plant systems, and was promoted every time promotions came around, leaving the service as an E-5 Sergeant. He was on the Dean’s Honor Roll for three semesters at college, graduated from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center with a 98.6 classroom score, and a 94 pistol range score, and while working at the ammunition plant, began as a security officer and retired as Plant Protection Manager.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his son, Colby and wife Amanda, along with 9 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; his brother Buddy and wife Charlene; a nephew, David and wife Kari; two grand nieces, Carly and Kently and many other cousins, brothers and sisters in Christ, family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, August 12, 20-26 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, KS. Pastor Steve Bell will officiate. Military graveside rites will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the funeral home.
