Roger Stumpff

(From Fohn Funeral Home)

William “Roger” Stumpff, age 73, of Cassville, Missouri, passed away October 14, 2026 at his home in Cassville.

Roger, the youngest son of Donald and Barbara “June” (Blankenship) Stumpff was born March 27, 1953 in Cassville, Missouri, where he spent his entire life. On June 6, 1971 he married his high school sweetheart, Gaye (Krepps) Stumpff. They enjoyed a life filled with love and laughter and were blessed with two daughters, Kara Janell and Sunni Elizabeth.

His parents owned the Dairy Queen (which explains his lifelong love of ice cream). As a boy, he hung out there, and next door at Butler’s gas station where he quickly acquired the nickname “Sassafras.” In 1971 he graduated from Moler Barber College in Kansas City and started working with his brother, Rex. In 1976 they purchased the Reid Hardware building on Main Street and became co-owners of the newly remodeled and relocated Stumpff Barber Shop. In 1977, he began as a contract mail carrier, cutting hair part time in the evenings. In their spare time, he and Gaye purchased several homes and enjoyed remodeling them as rentals or flipping them. He eventually became a full-time USPS rural carrier, retiring after 40 years due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. On November 1, 2018 he received a life-saving double lung transplant which allowed him to actually begin enjoying his retirement.

He loved ice cream (his last meal), old cars and trucks, going to flea markets and auctions, Janice’s homemade sand plum jelly, and being outdoors. Horseback riding, motorcycles, four wheelers, jeeps, or his Polaris Ranger, traveling to the Colorado mountains and other states to ride the trails were his favorite activities. He enjoyed the country life in his dream home, tinkering in his shop, and listening to the “night sounds” on his beloved 60 acres. But the thing he loved the most was spending time and doing anything with his family. Family was always his #1 priority.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Gaye Stumpff; one daughter, Kara Williams and her husband, Jason; one grandson, Tanner Williams; one granddaughter, Tori Williams, all of Cassville; one brother-in-law, Ray Krepps and his wife, Janice of Winfield, Kansas; two sisters-in-law, Janice Stumpff and Yvonne Stumpff, of Cassville, and aunt, Bonnie Ragain, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sunni Stumpff; his parents; brothers, Rex Stumpff and Max Stumpff; his niece, Tricia Vaught; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne and Edith Krepps; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard and Chalea Starlin, and Bob and Nonie Opperman and nephew, Steve Starlin.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor Paul Wahlert will conduct the services. Burial will be at Russell Cemetery in Butterfield, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
