Doris Spry

Doris E. Spry, 100, of Carthage passed November 4, 2014 at St Luke’s Nursing Center. Doris was born in Webb City to Thomas Francis Klein and Melissa Jane (Barbee) Klein. Doris was born and raised in Webb City and spent her married life in Carthage. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church and of the Cardinal Class of the First Christian Church.

Doris was united in marriage to Monte L. Spry November 10, 1934 he preceded in death December 5, 1992.

Doris is survived by two daughters Elaine Wheat and husband Kenneth and Mary Jane Talley and husband Bill both of Carthage, four sons Monte E. Spry and wife Barbara of Carthage, Jerry L. Spry and wife Shirley of Carthage, Tom Spry and wife Robyn of Mt. Zion, IL, and David Spry and wife Cheryl of Diamond, twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday November 8, 2014 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 Saturday November 8, 2014 prior to the service. Richard Fuget

Richard Eugene Fuget Sr., 85, of Carthage, passed November 1, 2014. 

Richard was born March 26, 1929 to Marion Wilbur Fuget and Adelene (Long) Fuget in Osceola, MO. Richard was a lifetime Carthage resident. He worked at Flex O Lators, retiring from the Steadley Company and worked for Wal-Mart fork 11 years after he retired. 

Richard was united in marriage to Ivy Morris in 1949 in Carthage, she preceded him in death, Richard was united in marriage to Pat Shummy October 15, 1976 she survives. Richard is survived by one son Richard "Rick" Fuget Jr. of Carthage, three daughters Carolyn Tatum and husband Ricky of Springfield, Velorial Lewis and husband Ted of Webb City, Kim Howard and husband Tom of Miller, one sister Donna Chapman and husband Jerry of Jasper, 19 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Richard is preceded by his parents, two daughters Joanna Bane and Debbie Reece, one sister Doralee Poindexter, one brother James Fuget and four grandchildren. 

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday November6, 2014 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday November 5, 2014 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Corky Moorehead

Earl Carroll (Corky) Moorehead, age 63 of Joplin, passed away at 7:40 a.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at his home.

Born May 19, 1951 in Kansas City, MO, he was the son of the late Walter William Moorehead and Helen Marie Mayo Moorehead and was a lifelong Joplin resident. Corky worked as a supervisor at Missouri Steel Castings for over 20 years, then two years for Joplin Floor Design. He was co-owner of C&T Construction Company for 15 years. He loved to make his own wood furnishings and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

On February 16, 2007 he married Diana S. Ray in Miami, OK. She survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Angie Moorehead of Tulsa, OK, Georgiana Holstrom of Baxter Springs, KS; a son, Christopher Short of Joplin; siblings, Sally Loyd, Billy Moorhead, Norma English and husband Tony, all of Joplin, Elaine Harding and husband Tom of Carl Junction; and eight grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pat Shelby and her husband Lawrence; and brother-in-law, John Loyd.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

Ernest Betterton

Ernest S. Betterton, Jr., age 90 of Joplin, passed away at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, October 31, 2014 at The Communities of Wildwood Ranch after a sudden illness.

Born September 9, 1924 in Joplin, he was the son of the late Ernest S. Betterton, Sr. and Carrie Vaught Betterton and was a lifetime Joplin resident. A truck driver all of his working life, he retired from Yellow Freight. A U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theater of Operations. He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion and Blendville Christian Church.

On April 5, 1946 he married Mildred N. (Sally) Goode in Columbus, KS. She survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Scott Betterton of Joplin; a daughter Eva Temczuk and husband Craig of Omaha, NE; four grandchildren, Carrie Jones and husband Taylor of Webb City, Paula Nelson and husband Shawn of Surprise, AZ, Tracy Case and husband Chad of Wichita, KS, Justin Betterton and wife Ann of Wichita; seven great-grandchildren, Alexis, Connor, Hailee, Wyatt, Emilee, Mikah and Isabella; a sister-in-law, Clardene Betterton; and a brother-in-law, Marvin Greer.

Preceding him in death was a son, Ernest Craig Betterton; three sisters, Anna, Earnestine and Juanita; three brothers, Jack, C.B. and Nolan.

The family would ask that friends and family gather to honor the life of a loving father and very proud grandfather, and great grandfather for Graveside services with military honors. Services to be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at Osborne Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Justin Betterton, Wyatt Case and Taylor Jones will assist as pallbearers.

Duane Wecker

Duane W. Wecker, age 67, of Pierce City, MO died on Saturday, November 01, 2014, at his home in Pierce City, MO. Mr. Wecker was born in Monett, MO on Friday, July 04, 1947. He was the son of Fred and Bertha (Wagnor) Wecker. Mr. Wecker married Nancy Moenning on February 15, 1969, in Freistatt, MO. He was a farmer and of the Catholic faith.

Surviving are the following: his wife, Nancy, of the home; two daughters, Anna Wecker of Pierce City, MO and Kathy Washeck and husband, Rob, of Lees Summit, MO; two sisters, Phyllis Gasser of Pierce City, MO and Jeanette Lugar of Pierce City, MO; one brother, Edward Wecker of Oronogo, MO; and two grandchildren. Mr. Wecker was preceded in death by his mother and dad; two brothers, Fred and Donald Wecker; and a sister, Laura Rose Severs.

The family will receive friends at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pierce City, MO on Tuesday, November 04, 2014, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.with Rosary to be said at 8:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pierce City, MO on Wednesday, November 05, 2014, beginning at 10:30 A.M. with Father Peter J. Morciniec officiating. Burial will follow at Pierce City Cemetery in Pierce City, MO under the direction of the Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, MO.

John Anderson

Thurman H. “John” Anderson, 91, of Joplin passed away at his home at 11:55 p.m. Friday, October 31, 2014. John was born August 2, 1923 in Jane, Missouri. He was the son of Millard J. Anderson and Eva L. “Kimbro” Anderson. John was a longtime Joplin resident. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. John was employed in the grocery business for 42 years in the Joplin area, and continued to work another 20 years after retirement. He was a member of Community Chapel in Joplin. John was united in marriage to Juanita Smith Washington on January 18, 1966 in Goodman, Missouri. She preceded him in death on March 2, 2008.

Survivors include two daughters, Helen Diane Ranz of Joplin and Judith Anne Anderson of Joplin, two step-sons; William L. Smith of Joplin and Ross L. Smith of Kansas City, MO, 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. John was preceded in death by one daughter, Saundra Kaye Boehne on December 3, 1965, one brother, Thomas “T.J.” Anderson and three sisters; Mae Boston, Clella Maxwell and Ruby McGaugh.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at the Ulmer Funeral Home.
