Edwin Fairchild

Mr. Edwin Larry Fairchild, 85, of Jane, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville, Arkansas. He was born on September 7, 1932, in Lottie, Louisiana, the only son born to the late Ed L. and Mabel (Chiasson) Fairchild.

He was raised in Baker, Louisiana and was a 1952, graduate of Baker High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, serving his country faithfully until being honorably discharged in 1956. On October 15, 1954, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Haire and to this union three children were born, Sherry, Ed and Kelly. They resided in South Louisiana where Edwin worked as a Master Electrician. In 1969 they moved their family to Jane, Missouri, and purchased a farm. Besides farming, he enjoyed working with wood, rebuilding old cars and fishing. He also built several homes in the Jane area.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sherry Cooper; and a sister, Beverly Hock.

Edwin is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Sylvia Fairchild of the home; a son, Ed Fairchild and wife, Lillian, of Jane, Missouri; a daughter, Kelly Fairchild of Joplin, Missouri; four grandchildren, Sharon, Ashlie, Jennifer and Baker; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Talik and husband, Ralph, of Jane, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Fairchild are 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2018, at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Jane, Missouri, with Bro. Hank Gorman officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Jane Cemetery. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Danny Smith, Keith Smith, Baker Fairchild, Topher Guerber, Nathan Harvey, Butch Caldwell, Alan Wardlaw and Jason Collins. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes. Tom O'Brien

Thomas Joseph O’Brien, Jr., 84, of Pineville, Missouri, peacefully departed this life on Monday afternoon, September 3, 2018, at home surrounded by loved ones after a long battle with cancer.

Tom began his earthly life on May 24, 1934, in Fort Worth, Texas, the youngest of four children and the only son born to the late Thomas Joseph and Jane (Pryor) O’Brien. He was raised in Fort Worth and was a graduate of Paschal High School. He attended one semester at Texas Christian University but soon decided to go into the beauty and barber supply business first at Royal Beauty and Barber Supply in Houston, Texas and later, due to his father’s unexpected death in 1956, began overseeing the operation of the family owned Richie-Lansford Co.

Tom remained employed in the beauty and barber business but being a natural born entrepreneur and visionary, soon took on the challenges and risks of “being his own boss” and so In 1975 he purchased Seabrook Texas Queen Party Boats, Inc in Seabrook, Texas where he even took the coast guard examination to become captain of the 60 foot vessel. Next he launched Budget Beauty Supply which eventually had three locations in the Houston, Texas area. While running that business he saw that shipping and box stores were becoming popular and so he opened Box It in League City, Texas. After retirement, Tom decided to learn the BBQ business. He researched the best methods of smoking “Texas Style” BBQ and purchased a food wagon and smoker and began selling BBQ out of a homemade BBQ stand on his property in Alvin, Texas. Tom continued cooking even after moving to Pineville and began serving his delicious food out of two locations and eventually with a food cart on the square until this past May.

On February 25, 1977, he married the love of his life, Marilyn O’Brien and together they have shared forty-one years. Theirs was a love affair, filled with never ending love and laughter, always partners in business and in life.

Tom was a quiet and thoughtful man. He knew the meaning of “a servant’s heart” and quietly without fanfare lived a Godly life. He loved his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him. He was a member of Anderson United Methodist Church but the Pineville church always remained in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mary Jane Haynie, Frances Butler and Dorothy Williams; and step son Patrick McClay.

Tom is survived by his seven children, Thomas J. O’Brien III and wife Courtney, John O’Brien and wife Dee, Michael O’Brien and wife Carolyn, Arden Riley and husband Tom, Patricia O’Brien, Leslie Dawkins and husband Randy, and Michelle Bowers and husband Fred and thirteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. O’Brien are 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2018, at the Pineville United Methodist Church with Pastors Mark Kailbourn, Doris Schlessman Nick VanDam officiating. Burial will follow in the Pineville Cemetery. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Tom O’Brien, III, John O’Brien, Michael O’Brien, Michael Thomas O’Brien, Dennis Kirk and Ron Johnson. The family will receive friends on Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials are being directed to Solace House of the Ozarks c/o the funeral home. David Crappel

David Roy Crappel, Sr., age 58, of Sarcoxie, MO passed away Monday, September 3, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO.

David entered this life on January 5, 1960 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the union of the late Aubrey and Nina (Smith) Crappel. He was employed for several years in paint sales with Devo Paint and later with Tyson Foods in Monett, MO. The majority of his life he lived in Louisiana and later moved to Sarcoxie, MO. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earl Steven Crappel, sisters, Mary J. Redmond and Sharon L. Miller.

David is survived by his children, David Roy Crappel, Jr. (Lauren), Ashley Marie Crappel (Justin Cloud), all of Marrero, Louisiana; grandchildren, Sophia, Kenzlee and David,III.; sister, Brenda Crappel, of Sarcoxie; step siblings, Donald Winstead, Lawrence Winstead (Debbie) and Michelle Thompson (Ricki); several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Diamond Bradley

Diamond James Bradley made his premiere debut in this world on August 14, 1985, in Kansas City, Missouri.

He was born the last of five children to Vera Simmons, her one and only son. The family relocated to Joplin, Missouri, in the early 90s, where Diamond would end up spending most of the better part of his life. He was a student of both North Middle School and Joplin High School. Diamond liked cooking (and eating!) and over the years worked at various hotels and restaurants in the community. He also enjoyed camping and would often speak of his dream to build a home out in the wilderness.

To truly know Diamond Bradley was to know a character. Diamond was a free spirit – a soul that just wouldn’t be tamed. He had a persona that was very much the life of party – even if there was no party! His personality could overwhelm any room. His laughter was infectious and his smile was heart-melting. He undeniably treasured his children and thrived on their love. He was both a devoted brother to his sisters and an impassioned son to his mother. His warmth and presence will be forever missed in all of our lives.

Upon his heavenly homecoming, Diamond will join his fathers, Tony Simmons and Terry Boney; his maternal grandmother and grandfather, Mr. and Mrs. John Melton; his great-great-aunt, Mrs. Tava Lee Jones; and a host of other family and friends that have passed beforehand.

Diamond physically leaves on this earth his beloved daughter, Makayla Gilstrap; his cherished trio of sons, Dominique, Daunte and Davion Bradley; his dear mother, Vera Simmons; his father, Larry Bradley; his endearing sisters, Amanda Gray, Arlene Wesley, Marilyn Bradley and Hannah Woessner; his brothers-in-law, Michael Gray and Treeman Wesley; his nieces and nephews, Elijah Weathers, Orion Scarboroug, Aliza Bradley, Tionna Wesley, Treeman Wesley and Gabriel Gray; the mothers of his children, Ashely Doerge and Chelsea Gilstrap; and a number of other family members and friends. His memory will forever live on in all of our hearts. We pray to God for his unyielding mercy and have continued faith in his deliverance. Until we meet again…”you feel me?”

Funeral services for Diamond are 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2018, in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with David DuRall, II, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Joplin. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Ian Marshall, Dominique Bradley, Jon McGonagle, Charlie Melton, Michael Gray and Brad Ship. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Jeff Nichols

Jeffery Loren “Jeff” Nichols, age 58, of Carthage, Mo passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018 at St Luke’s Nursing. He was born on September 30, 1959 in Carthage the son of the late Emil Nichols and Betty (Horine) Nichols. He worked at the Tastee-Freez Restaurant.

Jeff is survived by a sister Kathy Mankin of Carthage. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Terry Nichols.

Bob Lane

Robert Lee "Bob" Lane, age 72, Loma Linda, passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at his home after a six month battle with cancer.

Bob was born December 30, 1945 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, son of the late Joseph Lee Lane and Effie Louise Thompson Lane. He graduated from Neosho High School, then proudly served with the Army Ranger Special Operations Division in Vietnam, serving in long range recon. He returned from Vietnam, a highly decorated veteran, and moved to California, where worked there in the Horticultural Industry. He returned to the Joplin area in 1990 where he continued to own and operate his tree service, Trees Unlimited, until retiring in 2010. He was a member of Faith and New Hope Church of Joplin.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a niece, Robin Johnson.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Sherry Landers Lane of the home, daughter, Michelle Reyes and husband Luis of Riverside, California; step son, Michael Smith of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Nelissa D'Aprile, Nikko D'Aprile, Caleb D'Aprile all of Riverside, and Victoria Kathleen Smith of Tulsa; six siblings, Ada Sparks of Lee Summit, Missouri, Betty Banks of Joshua Tree, California, Sarah Lane of Joplin, James E. Lane and wife Ladonna of Cainsville, Missouri, William "Bill" Lane of Joplin, and Ralph Lane and wife Ann also of Joplin; nieces and nephews, Terri Sanchez and husband John, Robert Johnson, Tim Clack and wife Sharon, Amy Devore and husband Trann, Jason Lane and wife Jesse, John Lane and wife Angie, Chad Butler and wife Angie, Joshua Gill, and Scott Gill; several great-nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Friday, September 7, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Faith and New Hope Church with Pastor P.J. Hutchinson officiating.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

Dolly Holland

Eloise Louise “Dolly” Holland, age 83 of Alba, Missouri passed away at her home on Monday September 3, 2018 following a lengthy illness.

She was born June 5, 1935 in Galesburg, Missouri to Charles and Rachel (Scott) Minkler.

Dolly worked as an assistant postmaster in Purcell and Neck City and was a cook at the Alba School.

She married Troy Holland on April 1, 1955 and he survives. She is also survived by two sons, Tony Holland and wife Ava, Oronogo, Missouri, Curt Holland and wife Kim, Ozawkie, Kansas; two grandsons, Scott Holland, Chad Holland; two great grandchildren; and one sister, Freda Highley and husband Bill.

Dolly was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Bill Minkler.

Memorial services will be 2:00 pm Friday September 7, 2018 at the Purcell Baptist Church with Johnny Wilkins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
