Rusty Bowling

Rusty Wayne Bowling of Fairland, OK passed from this life Wednesday, April 29, 2020 in Grove, OK. He was 40.

Rusty was born May 11, 1979 in Joplin, MO to Clinton Thomas and Debra Jean (Fisher) Bowling. He was a 1997 graduate of Picher-Cardin High School. He had lived in Fairland for 2 years, moving from Arizona.

Rusty served six years with the United States Marine Corps in Hawaii. He was a plumbing / heat and air contractor working for Maxson Plumbing / Heat and Air in Grove, OK. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Quapaw, OK.

He was preceded in death by his mother Debra Jean Hamby.

Rusty is survived by two daughters, JoHannah Bowling of Commerce, OK and Emma Bowling of Arizona, his father, Tommy Bowling and his wife Yaddy of Quapaw, OK, three brothers, Thomas Earl Bowling and his wife Jamie of Quapaw, OK and Jan Carlos Bowling and his wife Ali of Pennsylvania and Jake Hamby and his wife Julie and six sisters, Marjorie Dodson and her husband Chris of Orlando, FL, Drenna Robertson and her husband Matt of Quapaw, OK, Gina Green and her husband Ryan of Carl Junction, MO, Meury Bowling of Orlando, FL, April Blair and her husband Stephen and April Hamby.

Private services will be held. Rusty will lie in state Sunday (May 3) from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. and Monday (May4) from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK for family and friends to pay their respects and sign the register book. Robert Braunschweig

Robert Oscar Braunschweig, Sr., 94, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.

Robert was born on September 2, 1925 in Watertown, Wisconsin to the late, August and Amanda (Schultz) Braunschweig. He grew up on a farm in Burnett, Wisconsin, moving to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin when he was 10 years old.

Robert worked at a bakery and painted big barns. He joined the United States Navy in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946, proudly serving our country in WW11. 

Robert met Elaine Gertrude Mann at a dance and they were married on October 1, 1949. They resided in California until 1960, where he worked for Kaiser Steel. They moved to Missouri in 1960. He worked for Vickers in Joplin, Missouri and then he went into the meat processing business until he retired in 1990. Robert was a member of the VFW in Neosho, Missouri.

He is preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers and three sisters.

Robert is survived by his children, Robert Oscar Braunschweig, Jr. and wife, Ruth of Neosho, Missouri, Sharon Rose Morgan and husband, Jimmie of Goodman, Missouri and Sandra Rae Gibson and husband, Randall of Bixby, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren, Teresa Braunschweig, Chris Morgan, Dustin Hansen, Robbie Braunschweig, Shaun Hansen, Andrew Braunschweig; 13 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; as well as a host of other family and friends who will dearly miss Robert.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at the Howard Cemetery in Goodman, Missouri. Pastor Shannon Cobb will officiate.

John Getzelman

John Milton Getzelman, 72, of Reeds, Missouri, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2020 in the comfort of his home

John was born on September 19, 1947 in Elgin, Illinois, to the union of the late Robert Milton and Adeline Mable (Sodman) Getzelman. After graduation he later earned his associates degree. On December 1, 2004 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Weisensee in Carthage, Missouri. For several years he worked for Butterball in Carthage. John was a man of many talents. He was a well-known plumber and carpenter. He was of the Baptist faith, and was the spiritual leader of his family. He enjoyed gardening, farming, and reading, as well as spending time with his family. He will truly be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Nancy J. (Chizawsky) Getzelman.

John is survived by his wife, Marilyn Getzelman; children, Lloyd Getzelman of Pahrump, Nevada, Heather Stanwick (Bert Uitts), of Reeds, Missouri, Andy Getzelman, of Shattuck, Oklahoma, and Jonathan Getzelman (LeAnn) of Reeds, Missouri; seven grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; brother, Clayton R. Getzelman, of Momence, Illinois; two nieces; one nephew; numerous step children; and several step grandchildren; step great- grandchildren; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, private family services are being held.

Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Lloyd Getzelman, Andy Getzelman, John Getzelman, Jes Stanwick, Bert Uitts and Luke Uitts. Gary Strickland

Gary Wayne Strickland, 64, of Exeter, Missouri, passed away on April 30, 2020, after a short illness.

Gary was born to Clayton and Janiece Strickland in Miami, Ok., on April 18th, 1956. 

Gary is survived by his daughter, Shelly Strickland; his mother, Janiece Lawson, both of Exeter, Mo.; his brother, Kent Strickland of Seneca, Mo.; and two Grandchildren, Madi and Jack. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Clayton Strickland; two brothers, Rick and David Strickland. 

A celebration of life will be attended by friends & family at a later date. We were blessed by his time with us and will miss him dearly.

Henry Pullum

Rev. Henry Major Pullum, Sr., age 102, of Joplin, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at his home with family at his side.

Henry was born August 27, 1917 in Fredrick, Oklahoma, son of the late Henry and Georgia Pullum. He was a longtime employee with Vickers, worked as a bus driver for the Joplin R VIII School District, and also worked for a couple of years with Freeman Hospital as a Door Ambassador. He was a member of the Prince Hall Masonry #149.

Rev. Pullum was proud of his Christian Faith, and served as a pastor for years at Mt. Hebron Church. He was also an active member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 50 years. He enjoyed being involved with local athletics, both playing and watching, and was a well known softball player and bowler for years in the Joplin area. In his later years, he loved watching ballgames from Little League to American Legion.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ollie Hildreth Pullum ; son, Henry M. Pullum, Jr. daughters, Pastor Deborah Powell and Joyce Pullum; several grand and great-grand children.

A Masonic Service will be held for Bro. Henry on Monday, May 4, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel with family to see friends after.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Samuel Nero and Dr. Phillip McClendon officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Kortney Cobb

Kortney Leon Cobb, age 31, Asbury, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2020 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Kortney was born June 24, 1988 in Joplin, son of Jeffrey Leon Cobb and Sally Ann Blair Cobb. He graduated from Carl Junction High School in 2006, and later attended Franklin Tech in Joplin earning his credentials as a mechanic. He worked for Wal-Mart in the automotive department for a few years, and this is where he met his wife, Brittany. He was currently working for Summit Truck Group as a diesel mechanic.

Kortney was an active member of Forest Park Baptist Church where he enjoyed working with Kid's City, and he loved his Life Group family. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing, and was always tinkering with cars and trucks in his spare time.

His favorite pastime was spending time with his family, especially his beloved "Miracle Child", Natalie. He was also very excited about Brittany being pregnant with their next child.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Gary Mitchell.

Survivors include his loving wife and best friend, Brittany E. Mitchell Cobb; daughter, Natalie Grace Cobb, and their second miracle baby on the way, all of Asbury; his parents, Jeff and Sally Cobb of Asbury; Brittany's parents, Terry and Paula Mitchell of Joplin; sisters, Kristy Rippel and husband Kenny of Columbus, Kansas, and Alisha Cobb of Asbury; brother-in-laws, Dmitry Cederberg, Douglas Mitchell, Dustin Mitchell and wife Lindsey, Jake Mitchell and fiancè Laura, and Sheldon Mitchell; nieces and nephews, Oliver Rippel, Sylas Rippel, and Amelia Mitchell.

Funeral service will be Thursday, May 7, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Park Baptist Church with Dr. John Swadley officiating. Interment will follow in Carl Junction Cemetery with Matthew Cogbill, Andrew Clemons, Kenneth Rippel, Jason Bitticks, and Clark Rutledge serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Forest Park Baptist Church on Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Brittany to help with future expenses for their children.

Charles Phillips

Charles Wayne Phillips, 72, Joplin, MO passed into eternal rest April 30, 2020 at his home in rural Joplin after a long illness.

Charles Wayne Phillips was born August 21, 1947 in Joplin, MO the son of Henry (Hank) C. and Maude Ellen (Hartje) Phillips. Charles was a US Army Veteran. Chuck, as he was known by his family and friends, was always cracking jokes. He loved old cars, fishing, horses, going to the casino and being around his family. He enjoyed having a monthly poker game in his garage. He worked at several lumber yards in the four-state area. He worked as Assistant Manager for Meeks Lumber in Joplin, MO until his retirement in 2018.

Charles Wayne Phillips married Mary Ellen Stevenson December 30, 1966 in Joplin, MO and she survives.

Additional survivors include one daughter, Heather Brodrick and husband Eddie, Joplin; two grandchildren, Derek Keeling and wife Tawni, Seneca and Morgan McDonald and husband Quintin, Golden City; three great-grandchildren Ellison Keeling, Harper McDonald and Brodie McDonald.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents Hank and Maude Phillips; siblings, Billy Gene Phillips, Jack Oliver Phillips, Judy Ann Allen, Clifford Cecil Phillips and sister-in-law Laverna A. Phillips.

A private graveside service will be held at the Kirk Cemetery North of Seneca with Bob Dart officiating. Pallbearers will include Benji Kendall, Jamie Vanstavern, Chris Eby, Richard Phillips, Mike DeWeese and Brian Alumbaugh. Honorary Pallbearers will be great-grandchildren, Ellison Keeling, Brodie McDonald and Harper McDonald.
