Dave Oehring

Charles David ‘Dave’ Oehring was born November 22, 1928 in Neosho, Missouri, the son of Troy H. and Mable M. (McMahan) Oehring. He entered into rest on April 24, 2021 at the age of 92. 

Dave was a lifelong area resident and U.S. Navy veteran, serving in WW II. He was a self-employed contractor and a talented homebuilder and was featured in a national magazine for his work. 

In addition to residential construction, he worked and oversaw the expansion of Freeman-Neosho Hospital. He was a perfectionist and very detailed in his occupation. Dave loved to take his grandkids on rides on his moped; was an avid Cardinals Fan and enjoyed quail hunting and fishing. He was an avid gun and coin enthusiast. 

Dave and Marjorie Mae (Hunt) were united in marriage on June 25, 1948 and she preceded him in death on April 28, 2012. 

He is survived by a daughter, Eraina Cashel and husband, Mike of Neosho; two grandchildren, Matthew B. Cashel and Chelsey Ann Cashel and one sister, Mary M. Turpen. 

Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home on Thursday to pay respects and sign the book. A private interment will be held.

Billy Brassfield

Billy Richard Brassfield, 71, of Pineville, Missouri, died April 25, 2021 at his home.

He was born May 3, 1949 in Bentonville, Arkansas, to Bill Brassfield and Joy Vale Wardlaw Brassfield. 

He formerly was the manager at MFA Feed. He enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, going to the lake, and cooking. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors are his wife Carol Brassfield of the home; four sons, Richie Morris of Bentonville, Preston Brassfield and wife Lacy of Fayetteville, Terry Brassfield of Pineville and Richard Brassfield of Gravette; one sister Rhonda Ramirez and husband Gabriel of Pineville; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is set for 2:00p.m. Saturday, May 1 at Sisco Funeral Home Chapel in Pea Ridge.

Jay Gordon

Jesse William “Jay” Gordon Jr., 67 of Jasper, Missouri passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at his home. He was born on May 7, 1953 in Webb City, Missouri to Jesse William Sr. and Bonnie (Reed) Gordon.

Jay was retired from the United States Air Force.

Jay was united in marriage to Mary Cunningham on September 1, 1971. She survives. 

Other survivors include one son, Jesse William Gordon III (Stephanie), one daughter, Pepper Gordon, two brothers, Robert Gordon Sr.,and Mark Gordon Sr., one sister, Mary Powell, five grandchildren, Tessa Cates, Elizabeth Carpenter, Rebecca Vogt, Matthew Gordon, and Brody Gordon. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper, MO.

Virginia Peters

Virginia Lee Peters, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away at home on April 25, 2021 at the age of 81 after an extended illness. Born August 19, 1939, to King E. Barnett and Emma Jeanne Barnett, 

Virginia lived in Monett until she married Major (USAF) Jerry M. Peters on December 26, 1955.

Virginia was a devoted wife and a dedicated military spouse, which included being an active member of base life as well as raising her children alone during her husband’s three tours to Asia. 

In the days before the internet, she wrote her husband every other day he was on tour, and included drawings, pictures, and letters from their children to ensure an easy transition when he returned home. The entire family was stationed for three years in Naples, Italy, where Virginia volunteered at the Naples Hospital, played on a basketball team, and modeled for fashion shows. Virginia stood out among her peers, and she was tapped to give classes on military protocol.

Upon Jerry’s military retirement in 1971, they returned to Pierce City where she was a member of the Garden Club, the Bridge Club, the Supper Club, and the PTA. Her famous New Year’s parties were enjoyed by friends and family. Wherever there was a need, Virginia volunteered, including for Meals on Wheels and the Veteran’s Home. She served as an active, life-time member of the Women’s VFW Auxiliary for Tom Wolfe Memorial Post 4207 in Monett. She twice served as president and held all the chairmanships on the auxiliary level. Some of her happiest and proudest memories were of her years on the VFW pool league. She was an exemplary mother, teaching her children to value honesty and fairness and loyalty.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, her son Mark Peters and wife Kenna, and her brother Richard Barnett. Virginia is survived by daughter Valerie Sommer and husband, Art, of Springfield; daughter Victoria Howerton and husband, Phillip, of West Plains; son Eric Peters and wife, Ryna, of Jefferson City; and daughter Debra Hamilton and husband, Rick, of Carthage; as well as grandchildren Claudia, Sarita, Mitt, Mya, Mattie, McKelvie, and Nicole. She is also survived by brother Joe (Carole) Barnett, brother Tom (Vivian) Barnett, and sister, Rebecca Giboney.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2021 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Monett, with the Honorable Jack Goodman delivering the eulogy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.

Janice Larkin

Janice Marie (Colton) Larkin, 77, of Webb City, MO, died at 3:14 P.M., Thursday, April 22, 2021 at the Freeman West Hospital.

She was born July 12, 1943 at Parsons, a daughter of George Almer and Leah (Poage) Colton. She grew up and attended school at Parsons, graduating from Parsons High with the Class of 1961. She lived a short time in Kansas City, MO and worked at the Hallmark Card Co.

On February 10, 1962 she and Dwayne E. Larkin were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church at Parsons. The couple lived in Fredonia and returned to Parsons in 1965. 

She then began baking cakes for weddings, birthdays and other occasions and was known as “The Cake Lady”. She made cakes until the couple moved to Little Rock, AR in 1989. They later moved to Webb City, MO in 2010. Mr. Larkin survives of the home.

While living in Parsons, Janice was a member of the First Baptist Church. Currently she was a member of Christ’s Church at Oronogo, MO. She enjoyed baking, scrapbooking and crafts, attending many craft fairs with her husband.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: her daughter and son in-law – Brenda and Donnie Sotta, Rural McCune, KS; one son and daughter in-law – Brent and Laarni Larkin, Joplin, MO; another daughter and son in-law – Angela and Jeff Pracht, Bentonville, AR; Eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters – Margie Shields, Panama City, FL, Pauline Shartzer, Wichita, KS, Joan Stueber, Kansas City, KS, Judi Vaughn, Kansas City, KS. 

She was preceded in death by two brothers – Raymond “Bud” Colton, Dean Colton; two sisters – Phyllis Colton, Dorothy Worrall and one grandson – Daniel Sotta.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at 2:30 P.M., Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Mark Christian officiating. A private burial will be held in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Altamont. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Berlyn Bowen

Berlyn Elmer Bowen passed away early on the morning of April 20, 2021 at Northwood Hills Nursing Home in Humansville. He suffered and fought several heart attacks that eventually caused Congestive Heart Failure that took him away so early.

Berlyn loved to go fishing. There were not many more things that he loved more than being knee-deep in mud, catching catfish on our grandparent’s farm north of Caplinger. 

He also loved to tinker with small engines. If something was broken he would take it apart and there would be parts everywhere. He found such great joy in making something work that no one else was able to fix. But more than anything, he loved being a dad. His son Waylon was his reason for being and he beamed with joy when speaking about him and the things they would be able to do.

Berlyn was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elmer and Jewell Burns, and Ray and Helen Bowen, his father Merlyn Bowen as well as his brother Jerry Bowen. He leaves behind, in mourning, his mother Lucile Bowen of Stockton, 2 sisters Linda Wykoff and her husband Aaron of Stockton, Brenda Shanks and husband Mike of Lockwood, Tommy Bowen, and wife Amber of El Dorado Springs, and most precious to him is his son Waylon of the home. He had numerous nephews and nieces, as well as countless cousins. He also had friends that loved him like family in the Henry family who are very appreciated for their care and love before death and the continued care after his passing

At the request of our beloved, there will be no services, but a spreading of his ashes with close friends and family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, any donations can be given to help in the care of his son moving forward and left with Bland-Brumback Funeral home in Stockton.

Scott Musgrove

Scott Anthony Musgrove passed away on Tuesday April 20, 2021. He was born December 2, 1970 in Lamar, MO to Peter and Shelley (Strong) Musgrove. He grew up in Lamar, MO and graduated from Lamar High School in 1989. He graduated at 17 and moved to Tulsa, OK. 

He attended Missouri Southern State University, graduating with an Associate of Science degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design. 

Scott worked in the four states area including O’Sullivan Industries in Lamar, MO, Able Body in Pittsburg, KS, Business Advantage in Lamar, MO and Finley Engineering CO in MO. KS, and AR. At the time of his death, he was living in Springfield, MO and working as a machine operator at Timken Belts. 

He loved animals and had a special affinity and fondness for the elderly, that he developed while his mother was working at a nursing home. He was an adventurous big kid who enjoyed making people laugh. 

Scott is survived by his sister, Misty (Andy) Marti of Lamar, MO; brother, Zack Musgrove of Pittsburg, KS; nieces and nephews; Cooper, Drew, and Hannidy Marti of Lamar, MO and Erika Steeby of Pittsburg, KS; and his partner Martina Austin and her daughter Lilly of Springfield, MO. He is also survived by his Aunt, Sari (Rick) Hornbeck of Lamar, MO, and Uncles, David (Christy) Strong of Lamar, MO, Mick (Pam) Strong of Ft. Smith, AR, and Doyle Dunagan of Lamar, MO. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Erik Musgrove. 

The family would appreciate donations in lieu of flowers to be made to the funeral expenses. The family will receive visitors on Saturday May 1, 2021 at 10 AM at Konantz Warden Funeral Home. A service will follow at 11 AM.
