Linda Henderson

Linda Anne Parrish Henderson, age 64, of Joplin, Mo. passed away at 5:06 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Joplin Health and Rehab Center following a two month illness.

Linda was born April 9, 1950 in Joplin and lived in the Joplin area most of her life. She was a 1968 graduate of Carterville High School and was Valedictorian of her class. She attended Missouri Southern State University, and for 35 years worked for MSSU in the Library. Linda was a member of the First Christian Church of Webb City.

Survivors include her son, Ben Henderson and wife Pam, Pittsburg, KS, her Mother, Tillie Parrish, Lakeside Community, two brothers, John Parrish and wife Lynn, Marion, IL, and Jim Parrish, Webb City, one sister, Kathy Beyer and husband Bob, Webb City, a sister in law, Gretchen Parrish, Joplin, and two granddaughters, Ashleigh and Katherine Henderson. Linda was preceded in death by her Father, Fred Parrish, and a brother, Mark Parrish.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home in Webb City with David Patrick, Minister, officiating. Burial will follow in the Carterville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. Monday until the Service at the Chapel. Memorial contributions are requested to the MSSU Spiva Library in care of the Funeral Home. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home of Webb City, Mo.

George Ralston

George Edgar Ralston, 64, passed away after his courageous battle with cancer on October 15 at his home surrounded by loving family and friends.

He was born February 23, 1950 to Lester and Evelyn Ralston in Carthage, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

George served with the U.S. Army in the 809th Engineer Battalion from 1968 to 1971 in Southeast Asia and Germany. Most recently attending Peace Lutheran Church, he was a faithful Christian who was committed to serving at church, and participated in many church activities. He enjoyed many family fishing and camping trips, going to Silver Dollar City, Boy Scout activities with his son, Church Campfire Worship, watching football with his father-in-law and having coffee with his friend Stan.

He was employed at Mercy Hospital for the last 18 years and spent the last several years as a courier for the Infusion Center. He was known for his kindness with the patients.

George is survived by his wife, Vicky Putnam Ralston. They were married at Blendville Christian Church, June 12, 1982. He is also survived by his daughter, Amy Faulkner and husband Christopher; granddaughter, Alanna; father-in-law and mother-In-law, Ray and Mary Putnam, all of Joplin. He is also survived by his son, Andrew Ralston, and wife Hannah of Tulsa, OK.

Additionally, he is survived by two brothers: Raymond Ralston (Helen) of Carthage, MO, Eugene Ralston, Joplin, MO, and three sisters, Betty Smith (Dale), Carthage, MO, Reba Replogle (Glenn) of Avilla, MO and Shirley Phillips (Arthur) of Ephrata, WA and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arrangements are being provided by Parker Mortuary of Joplin. Visitation will be Saturday, October 18, 2014 from 6-7:00 P.M. at Parker Mortuary and Funeral Service will be at Blendville Christian Church Sunday, October 19, at 3:00 P.M..

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy Employee Crisis Fund or Peace Lutheran Church of Joplin.

Diana Larkin

Diana Sue Larkin age 63 Joplin, Mo, passed away Tuesday October 14, 2014 following an illness.

She was born January 31, 1951 in Joplin, Mo, to Billy Ray and Martha Jane Stempke Baskett. Diana was a nurse’s aide for St John’s Hospital. She enjoyed crocheting, making throw rugs and attended the Baxter Springs Methodist Church.

 She married George “Larry” Larkin on July 20, 1974 in Baxter Springs, Kansas and he survives. She is also survived by a step son Lonnie Larkin and wife Julie, one brother; Keith Baskett, one sister; Martha Lynne Baskett, and two step grandchildren; Lindsey and Brady. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Alan Hendrickson officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary.

 Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.

Norma Hembree

Norma June Hembree, 89, Joplin, died October 16, 2014 at Webb City Health and Rehab, following a lengthy illness. Norma lived in the Neosho area for many years and retired from Kraft Foods in 1987.

Frances Garrison

Frances Mary Garrison, 89, Monett, died October 15, 2014 at her home, following a short illness.

 Frances was born September 22, 1925 in Purdy, Missouri, the daughter of Tony and Rosie (Bousheski) Kresyman. She lived in Kansas City, Kansas for many years and moved to Neosho after husband’s retirement. Frances was a homemaker and loved to dance. She was a member of St. Canera Catholic Church. 

Frances married Gaylord Garrison on May 8, 1948 in Kansas City, Kansas and he survives. Also surviving are two sons, Glenn Garrison of Neosho, and Steven Garrison of Kansas City, KS; one daughter, Wanda Barton of Monett; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Teri Byrd

Teresa (Teri) Loree Byrd, age 55 of Duenweg, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at her home surrounded by family following a hard fought battle with cancer.

Teresa was born September 2, 1959 to the late Maxie and Lela Schriber Thomas in Dallas, Texas. She graduated from Missouri Southern State University with her teaching degree and then continued her education receiving her Master's degree at Pittsburg State University. She was a great educator, teaching science for many years at North Middle School in Joplin. Teresa was a faithful member of Forest Park Baptist Church where she was actively involved in Mission Joplin after the 2011 tornado.

She is survived by her best friend, Steve Byrd whom she married on June 12, 1981 in Webb City, Missouri.

Additional survivors include one son Taylor Byrd; daughter, Jennifer Branch (Ryan) all of Joplin; brothers, Tim Thomas of Columbus, Kansas, Troy Thomas and Todd Thomas both of Garland, Texas; sisters, Tracey Thomas of Baxter Springs, Kansas and Tricia Harrison (Rodney) of Sachse, Texas; many extended family and dear friends that will miss Teresa greatly.

Memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Freeman Cancer Center or Joplin Humane Society in care of the mortuary.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.

A tribute- Remembering Teri Byrd

Kevin Herne

Kevin Peter Herne, age 66, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Mercy Hospital of Joplin.

Kevin was born February 23, 1948 in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, son of the late John Herne and Mabel Day. He attended school in Canada before joining the United States Marine Corps where he served in Vietnam. He returned to Syracuse, New York, and began his career at a truck driver. He drove for many companies throughout his career, and while working for CFI, now Conway, he moved to Joplin in 2006, and retired in 2009. While in Joplin he was a regular at the Senior Citizens’ Center where he enjoyed his time with friends, and especially playing pool, in which he excelled.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Rogers Herne, whom he married May 12, 1969 in Syracuse; daughters, Azura Herne and husband Paul Huggins of Joplin, and Bree Herne of Boston, Massachusetts; four brothers and two sisters still living in Canada and one sister in Mattydale, New York.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, with the family holding private services at a later date.
