Bill Leary

William Bruce 'Bill' Leary, Sr., age 89, Joplin, passed away at 7:05 p.m. Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Freeman West Hospital.

Bill was born May 19, 1926 in Arcadia, Florida to the late Charles D. Leary and Olive Lampman Leary and had lived in Joplin since 1978 moving from Houston, Texas.

He was a graduate of Valparaiso Technical School in 1948 and had worked as an engineer for Channel 16 (KSNF) in Joplin for many years, working up until the age of 83. Bill had also worked in the ministry field while he and his wife raised their family. Bill was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.

He was a member of the United States Marine Corp, serving in World War II, where he received the Purple Heart.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine O. Finch; a granddaughter, Vanessa; and siblings, David Leary, Elizabeth Ann Packer, James Leary and Virginia Paddock.

Survivors include a son, William B. Leary, Jr., Alba; a daughter, Joanne Scheel, Joplin; six grandchildren, Sean, Michael, Briana, Tiffany, Ashley, Jaime; one sister, June L. Mitchell, South Haven, Michigan; and 13 great grandchildren.

Memorial services are planned for Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses-West Congregation. The family will receive friends following the services.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
