Leatha Heatherly

Leatha M. Heatherly of Commerce, OK passed from this life on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Eastwood Manor in Commerce, OK. She was 96.

Leatha was born May 2, 1921 in Peoria, OK to Clinton and Maude (Baker) Rhodes. She had lived in northeast Ottawa County all her life. She managed Cozy CafĂ© in Cardin, OK and later worked for Lerner, Glen Berry and Patterson Garment Manufacturing and then she had worked for Picher – Cardin School Cafeteria for 13 years. She was a member Cardin Baptist Church, the Rebekah Lodge in Miami, OK and the Jollyette Club in Picher, OK.

Leatha loved to play bingo and cards and she loved to cook and bake, her specialty was baking earning her the nickname “Leatie Baker”. Each family reunion was not complete without her blackberry cobbler.

Leatha was preceded in death by her husband Roy Heatherly on July 29, 2006, her parents, 4 brothers Carroll Rhodes, Tom Rhodes, Raymond “Duke” Rhodes and Stephen Rhodes, 2 sisters Velma Wilson and Mary Phelps and one infant brother and two infant sisters.

Survivors include her son Terry Heatherly and wife Gerri of Miami, OK, 2 daughters Lela Rae Nowlin and husband Dick of Quapaw, OK and Janie Howey and husband Paul of Joplin, MO, 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 10 great great-grandchildren and 2 great great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2018 at Cardin Baptist Church, east of Miami, OK with Rev. Geoff Buffalo and Rev. Matt Derfelt officiating. Interment will be in Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens east of Miami, OK with Chris Heatherly, Caleb Heatherly, Kaden Nowlin, Gavin Nowlin, Blake Sullivan and Branden Sullivan serving as pallbearers. Grandsons and Great-grandsons will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK.
