Geneva Zilliox

Geneva Canfield Zilliox, age 91, Webb City, Missouri passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Freeman West.

Geneva was born November 28, 1928 in Oswego, Kansas, daughter of the late Jay M. Canfield and Anna Strickland Canfield. She graduated from Oswego High School, attended Parsons Junior College, and then received her Bachelor's degree from Kansas State Teacher's College, now Pittsburg State University, in Pittsburg, Kansas. She taught in Sherman City, Kansas as a primary school teacher, grades 1 - 4, and then taught 2nd grade at Westside School in Oswego, Kansas. She began teaching in Joplin in January of 1954 where she taught 1st grade at Eastmorland Elementary School until retiring in 1989.

She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Foundation, Missouri Retired Teachers Association, American Association of University Women, Joplin Area of Retired Personnel, also a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, and Ruby's Circle. She was a volunteer for Crosslines, St. Paul's United Methodist Church, and with Meals on Wheels.










In addition to her parents, Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Zilliox, who passed away on January 17, 2002; brothers, Robert Canfield and Daniel Canfield; sisters, Hazel Canfield and Catherine Cottengim.

Survivors include a sister, Ann Sramek of Oswego, Kansas; nephews, Jay Sramek, and James Canfield and wife, Shirley, all of Oswego, niece, Jené Short and husband, Barney of Joplin.

Graveside services will be Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 12:00 Noon at Friendship Cemetery, Hallowell, Kansas.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Thursday from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m.
