Shirley Holford

Shirley Nell Holford, age 84, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at her home following an illness.

Shirley was born July 9, 1935 in Joplin, daughter of the late Earl and Edna Holford. She attended Joplin Schools, graduating from Joplin High School, and then Joplin Junior College. She worked for over 46 years with local grocery stores, starting at Thriftway, then Piggly Wiggly, and finally Consumers Grocery Store before retiring as a manager.

Shirley was a member of the Retail Clerks Union, BPW, and was also an active member of South Joplin Christian Church. She loved the Lord, and spending time with her friends, and especially her cat, Boxer.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her sisters, Earlene Higginbotham, Darlene Bass; her brother, Terry Holford; and a niece.








Survivors include Jolene Baker, and her sons, Bob and Chris Baker, whom Shirley helped raise; friend, Sharon Baker, three nieces, a nephew, and their families.

Memorial service will be Friday, December 13 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Colleen Carroll and Rev. Kathryn Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Her ashes will be buried with her family in Osborne Memorial Cemetery at a later date.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to South Joplin Christian Church, the Joplin Humane Society, or St. Jude's Children's Hospital care of Parker Mortuary.
