Rita Schul

(From Simpson Funeral Home)

Rita June Schul, age 87, passed away on December 25th, 2019, in the early hours of Christmas morning. In the comfort of her room at Joplin Gardens nursing home, she left this world peacefully and painlessly, surrounded by her loved ones.

Rita was born on June 15th, 1932, to Ed and Grace Howerton of Carl Junction, MO, both of whom preceded her in death, along with her beloved sister, Lucille. Also preceding her in death was Rita’s husband, Calvin E. Schul, who passed away in 1999 from pancreatic cancer.

Rita was a warm, fiery, vibrant soul, who loved big earrings, blue eyeshadow, and most of all, her family. Anyone who met her was instantly besotted, for she lived to make people laugh and was never afraid to speak her mind.

She spent the majority of her life as an optical assistant for several vision care centers in the Joplin area, including Montgomery Ward Optical, where she worked for almost two decades. She retired from the field shortly following the death of her husband Calvin, before moving on to working as a sales associate for Dollar Tree, and finally as an EVS technician at Downstream Casino.

Rita is survived by her three children, Roger Reed II and his wife Wanda of Joplin, Catana Bahler of Joplin, and Robert Alexander of Berryville, Arkansas, as well as her grandchildren Terris Reed, Rhonda Gangon, Wendy Stout, Sean Bahler, Shane Bahler, Sonja Sharp, Penny Murdock, Nicole Alexander, Nathan Alexander and Keanna Alexander, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.

No funeral services will be held, as it was Rita’s wish to be cremated and have her ashes spread along with those of her loving husband and their dog, Hercules.

Rita’s Facebook page will remain open, and all who wish may post memorials and final words to her there. There is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved. -George Sand.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City. Visit www.simpsonfh.com for online condolences.
