Tommie Black

Tommie (Tom) Gene Black went to be with the Lord on December 28, 2019 at the age of 72 years.

Tom dedicated his life to serving God. He served as the minister of six different churches. He was the minister of Christ Church of Perseverance in Joplin, MO at the time of his death. He led numerous small groups and Bible studies and currently was a member and leader of a home group at College Heights Christian Church.

Tom lived the two greatest commandments throughout his life. His love for God and for people was evident to all who met him. He enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to bring joy into people’s lives.

Tom served as a board member at the Stained Glass Theater and was a member of the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Committee. He was actively involved at the Joplin Senior Center, volunteered at the Alliance of SWMO, served as an election judge, and was active in the community in many other ways.










He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Vickie, daughter Jennifer, son Michael (Marla), granddaughters Molly and Alanna, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Benna Black, brothers Jim and Michael Black, and sister Melissa Chambers.

A service honoring Tom’s life will be held on January 2, 2020 at 11:00 am. There will be a visitation preceding the service from 9:00 to 11:00 am. The service and visitation will be held at Christ Church of Perseverance in Joplin, MO, with Titus Neuenschwander officiating.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift can be made in memory of Tom Black to Stained Glass Theater, and may sent in care of the funeral home.
