Jerry Carter

Jerry Lee Carter, 85, Granby, MO entered into rest January 31, 2021. He was born in Cyclone Township McDonald County, Missouri, in 1935, to Ernest Riley Carter, and Ruby Jane (Lamb) Carter. 

His family moved to Granby, Missouri in 1937 and he graduated Granby High School in 1953. Jerry attended Joplin Junior College and Missouri Southern State University. 


After high school, Jerry went to Wichita, Kansas with several other local boys and worked for Boeing Airplane Company on the B-47 Bomber (Boeing Model 450). There he learned to love aviation, he spent his entire career in aviation and become a private pilot. 








 Jerry served 4 years in the Marine Corps, in San Diego, and Camp Pendleton, California, The Third Marine Division, FMF, in Korea and Okinawa, and Marine Barracks, Hawthorne Nevada. After his discharge he worked on The Apollo Program for North American Space Division in Tulsa, Avco Lycoming Electronics, Continental Motors, Ryan Aeronautical, and Teledyne, both in Neosho, Missouri, San Antonio and Los Angeles, California. He retired in 1991, worked for Greg Bridges; Newton County Prosecuting Attorney, for 3 years and later served 10 years as Newton County Presiding Commissioner.

In 1960, Jerry married the love of his life Judith Marlene Renfro. She was a Tulsa girl with auburn hair, green eyes and a heart blessed in heaven. He said she stole his heart 60 years ago while they danced in the Cains Ballroom to The Leon McAuliffe band, and never gave it back.

Jerry stated that his and Judith's family, which he liked to call the tribe, presented him with an unbelievably wonderful life.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 60 years Judith Marlene Renfro Carter. Four daughters, Karen and Jack Davis, Susan and Brian White, Judith and Charlie Weaver and Jennifer Carter Swift. Eighteen grandchildren, Jennifer and AJ Franks, Rebecca and Chad McCone, Elizabeth and Wade Schilling, Emily White and Clint Wyatt, Tyler and Carrie Martin, Sarah and Sean McNeill, Danny and Charlene Weaver, Jennifer and Alan Ryan, Travis and Krystal Weaver. Fourteen Great grandchildren Lofytn and Drew Franks, Penelope June Schilling, Hannah and Trenton Martin, Amelia and Charlotte McNeill, Dillon, Dalton and Danielle Weaver, Stockton and Camden Ryan. Kennley and Ty Weaver. Jerry is also survived by much loved nieces, nephews, and friends and a much beloved Aunt Jean Long of Salinas, Ca.
