Donna McDonald, born October 16th, 1939 in Winchester Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 31st , 2024 in her home of 20 years in Carl Junction, Missouri.
She was the daughter of Bert and Bertha Smith Havens.
She was a proud graduate of Winchester High School, graduating with the class of 1957, and married her high school sweetheart, Ted McDonald on December 21st 1958.
She applied her secretarial skills gained in High School working for the State of Illinois, Department of Mines & Minerals, the Jacksonville State Hospital and other vocations over the years. By the time she retired in 2003, she had worked for R.O. Corporation, Olathe Kansas, Christian Books and Gifts, Olathe Kansas and Lithographics, Overland Park Kansas. Her role as a homemaker, wife and mother was her true calling, and she excelled at creating a warm and nurturing environment for her family. Together she and Ted built a life together with their daughters, moving around the country from Illinois, Hawaii, Missouri, Kansas and back to Missouri.
She developed many other skills over the years, polishing her green thumb with a Master Gardeners certificate and having one of the most beautiful back yards in her neighborhood; even going back to her farming roots to run a blueberry farm with her husband and family for 15 years.
Her passion in life was to be outdoors, work with her hands, open her home to friends and family, and share her gifts. Her creativity truly shone through her love of interior design and sewing; a skill she passed on to her daughters and granddaughters.
Her faith and hope in Jesus was the driving force that made her willing to help others whenever she could. She was known for her hospitality, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
Her legacy will be one of unshakable faith, and a family she made strong by her example.
She is survived by her husband Ted McDonald, two daughters, Laura Jones of Webb City, Missouri, and Leslie (Bruce) Brand of Springhill, Kansas; eleven grandchildren, Connor (Jessie) Jones of Rogers, Arkansas, Landon (Mallory) Jones of Kansas City Missouri, Hannah (Bob) Sell of Joplin, Missouri, Meleah (Lucian) Myers of Houston, Texas, Andrah (Boone) Myers of DeRidder, Louisiana, Lydiah (Noah) Sampsel of Mission Veijo, California, Christah Jones of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Charis Jones of Kansas City, Missouri, Ethan Proffitt of Ulsan, South Korea, Jadon Proffitt of Pittsburg, Kansas, and Brennan Proffitt of Pittsburg, Kansas; seven great grandchildren, Nigel, Gordon, Miles, Leland, and Zoey Jones, Ellen Myers, Reagan Sell and soon to be born Baby Boy Sell; two siblings Dean (Brenda) Havens of Murrayville, Illinois, Linda (Gary) McCandless of Springfield, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister
Evelyn (Al) Suess, a brother Lloyd Havens and an infant sister Joyce Havens.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of Mason-Woodard Funeral Home.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:00 am Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Rooted Church in Carl Junction, Missouri. The family will receive friends and guests from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, June 7, 2024, at Mason-Woodard Chapel in Joplin, Missouri. Burial to follow funeral service at Carl Junction Cemetery.
