Freda P. Andrews, 74, of Columbus, KS passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2024 surrounded by her loving husband and children.

She was born March 17,1950 in Columbus to the union of Clara Mae and Henry Burton.

Freda attended Columbus schools and was a lifetime Columbus resident.

She and Buddy Andrews were united in marriage on September 15,1966 in Pittsburg, KS.

Freda dedicated her life to her home and family. She proudly supported Buddy throughout his Navy career. She baby-sat several children in her home over the years, including each of her grandchildren. She also provided care for elderly neighbors Joe Morris and Lorraine Noe, who became like family.

Her legacy lies in her fierce love for Buddy and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included a variety of crafts including crocheting and cross-stitching. She was best known for the delicious meals she made for her family. Favorites include her homemade noodles, vegetable soup, fried chicken and monkey bread. The grandchildren especially loved the popcorn balls she made in the autumn and her Christmas candy.

Freda was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson Quentin Andrews.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years Buddy, her children Shelley Cotter of Columbus, Sheila Andrews (Leroy Downs) of Crestline, KS, Shawn Andrews (Tracy) of rural Columbus and Stephanie Stauffer (Chris) of Carl Junction, MO. Her grandchildren Brandon Cotter (Kristen) of Colorado Springs, CO, Emily Cotter of Colorado Springs, CO, Hannah and Makenna Andrews of rural Columbus and Marly and Morgan Stauffer of Carl Junction, MO also survive. Great-grandchildren are Bryson and Hailey Cotter of Colorado Springs, CO. Freda was blessed to have held baby Hailey for the first time just days before she passed.

Freda’s surviving siblings are Rose Ann Smith, Jim Burton (Betty), Stanley Burton (Tammy), Kenny Burton (Donita), Dale Burton (Jerri), Missy Long (Rod), Frank Burton, and Steve Burton (Becky). Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral arrangements are being handled through Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus, KS. The funeral will be held at the funeral home Friday, June 7, 2024 at 10:00 AM. Freda’s nephew Steven Burton will perform the service. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM.
