Ruby Hess

Ruby Lee Hess, 89, of Monett, MO, joined her husband, Raymond, in Heaven on Tuesday, December 15, 2015. She had been a resident at Lacoba Homes for 6 ½ years.

Ruby was born to Roy and Ethel (Ross) Wallace on February 14, 1926 in El Dorado, KS. She attended and graduated from El Dorado High School. She was united in marriage with Raymond Ellsworth Hess on February 16, 1947. To this union, Ruby and Raymond were blessed with four children: Martin Ray, Janet Sue, Mary Ellen, and Richard Lee.

In the summer of 1960 the Hess family moved from El Dorado, KS to Monett. Ruby was a homemaker until the end of 1966 when she started working at McGinty-Frolick as a bookkeeper. She continued as a bookkeeper when the store became Brownsberger’s.

Ruby was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monett, and for a number of years, enjoyed teaching the word of God to her Sunday school class. She also enjoyed playing golf, reading, painting and pottery.

Ruby is survived by her children, Martin Ray Hess, and wife Sara, of Bartlesville, OK, Janet Sue McBride, and husband Ralph, of Joplin, MO, Mary Ellen Mitchell, and husband Mark, of Baton Rouge, LA and Richard Lee Hess, and wife Nancy, of Platte City, MO; one brother, Paul Wallace, of El Dorado; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of over sixty-five years, Raymond; her parents, Roy and Ethel Wallace; and two brothers, Cecil and Carl Wallace

Funeral services for Mrs. Hess will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Monett. Dr. Bill Cox will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6-8:00 p.m. at Buchanan Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Monett I.O.O.F. Cemetery following the service. In memory of Ruby, memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
