Rex Handley

Rex Hurley Handley, age 79, Carterville, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2020 at Freeman West of Joplin.

Rex was born March 5, 1941 in Webb City, Missouri, son of the late Ted. W. Handley and Katherine V. Trimble Handley. He graduated from William Christman High School in Independence, Missouri, and then proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and United States Navy. Rex was stationed in California during his military service. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for J & S in San Diego, California for 16 years before returning to the Joplin area in 1999.

Rex enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and watching and feeding birds. He was a dedicated fan of Webb City Football, and NASCAR. Rex never missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune. His biggest passion was rooting on his beloved Kansas City Chiefs even when he lived in Charger territory. 








In addition to his parents, Rex was preceded in death by a son, Gary Handley.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Delores Gay Arehart Handley of Carterville; son, Ronald Handley; daughters, Rexanna Blas, Theresa Valenzuela (Ray); grandchildren, Nick, Reese, Ashley, Rory, Randy, and ReiLee; great-grandchildren, Wynter, NovaLee, Ezekiel, Kazuna, Kaina, and Annabella; brothers, James Handley and Gary Handley; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be Sunday, August 30, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. Parker Mortuary Chapel with Alan McCamey officiating, and full military honors.

Cremation will follow the service, and his ashes will be interred at a later date in Seneca Cemetery.
