She was born on July 6, 1965, in Carthage, Missouri, the daughter of Lindle Dean Olinger and Sharon Kay (Garner) Olinger. Sheila's life was a testament to the enduring power of education, family, and kindness.
A proud graduate of Carthage High School, class of 1983, Sheila's passion for learning led her to Missouri Southern State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Education degree.
Furthering her commitment to education, she attained her Master of Education degree from Pittsburg State University. Sheila's academic pursuits were not just for her benefit; they were the foundation of her dedication to the students she served. Teaching English as a Second Language at Carthage Junior High School, Sheila inspired countless young minds to explore the rich tapestry of language. Before her tenure in Carthage, Sheila was employed with the Joplin School District, where she made significant contributions to the educational community. Her commitment to her students was unwavering, and her impact on their lives is immeasurable. Sheila's legacy in the world of education is one of passion, dedication, and an unwavering belief in the potential of every student.
Sheila was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She married Tim Denefrio on November 17, 1989, in Carthage, Missouri. Her 34-year marriage to Tim was a partnership of mutual respect and devotion. Together they raised a family that was the center of Sheila's world. Above all, Sheila cherished the time spent with her grandchildren. Her face would light up with joy in their presence, and she poured her love into every moment they shared. Sheila's love for her family was her driving force, and her absence will be felt deeply in every family gathering, every holiday, and every quiet moment of reflection.

Survivors include her husband, Tim Denefrio; her children, Jordan Denefrio, Carthage, Missouri, Emilee Peine (Brett), Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Bridger Denefrio (Lauren), Girard, Kansas; her grandchildren, Logen Spencer, Jameson Peine, Tempest Denefrio, and Timberlynn Denefrio; her mother, Sharon Kay Olinger, Jasper, Missouri; her siblings, Nathan Olinger (Amy) of Jasper, Charlotte Hopper (Randy) of Gulfport, Mississippi, Cheryl Vasquez (Ed) of Savannah, Georgia, and Melanie Madsen (Brian) of Carthage; along with many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Lindle Dean Olinger.
Memorial services will be held at 10 am, Friday, June 7, 2024, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Memorial gifts are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in care of Knell Mortuary.
