Jerry Wright

(From Sunset Funeral Home)

Spending his final days surrounded by loved ones, Jerry Thomas Wright, Sr. peacefully entered his eternal rest early on Saturday, June 15, 2024 in El Paso, TX. He was an outstanding husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, businessman, and friend.

Jerry was born on October 27, 1927 in Carthage, MO to Jewett and Eleanor Maher Wright. He was preceded in death by his parents, younger brother: Robert ‘Bobby’ Francis Wright and stepsister: Peggy Miles.

He is survived by his wife: Juanita ‘Nita’ Elkins, sister: Maureen Nowak, step-sister: Patty Underwood, two sons: Jerry Thomas Wright, II (Michelle) and Jody Robert Wright (Julie), two step-daughters: Kimberley Elkins and Tamara Elkins, five grandchildren: Meredith Wright, Heather Wright, Chase Wright (Leah), Mariah Ramirez-Beltran (Ray) and Dylan O’Brien, two great-granddaughters: Amelia Wright and Jane Wright, his niece: Susan Nowak and nephew: Craig Nowak (Kari).

He grew up between Carthage, MO and New York, New York and he enlisted in the Navy at just 17 years old. Following the Navy, he moved to Miami, FL where he held bellhop and lifeguard jobs. He left Miami in 1948 to move to El Paso, TX. He attended Texas Western College, now UTEP, and graduated in 1954. In 1962 Jerry founded Brokers El Paso Warehouse, now Brokers Logistics, Ltd., establishing a well-known third-party logistics company in El Paso, TX. Today, his legacy is continued by his eldest son, daughter-in-law, and eldest granddaughter.

Jerry had a love for handball, fishing, golf, riding his bike and swimming in the ocean. Despite losing most of his eyesight in his later years, he continued to enjoy life to the fullest without holding back.

He and his wife, Nita, traveled the world over the last 30 years – visiting 5 continents, making annual trips to Hawaii, and culminating with a Caribbean cruise at his age of 96. With Senior, it was always a must to gather for a great meal with wonderful conversations, and most importantly a cold beer, cocktail or a glass of wine. We will sorely miss his stories, love and laughter.

A Visitation will be held from 09:00am – 11:00am MDT on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Home-West with a Celebration of Life following at 11:00am.

Services are entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-West: 480 N. Resler Dr., El Paso, TX 79912.
