Brownie Brown

William Norvelle “Brownie” Brown, 85, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, formerly of Marshall, Missouri, went to be with his Lord on June 25, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Brownie was born on November 4, 1938, in Hale, Missouri to Harry Weaver and Ola May Brown. He spent his youth there and was a 1956 graduate of Hale High School. On December 29, 1957, after three years of dating, he married his high school sweetheart Kathryn Colleen Oden.










The two built a wonderful life together on a foundation of commitment to family and community with a strong work ethic in Marshall, Missouri and were married for 63 years. Brownie and Colleen were residents of Marshall for 50 years until moving to Lee’s Summit in 2013 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Colleen preceded Brownie in death on December 16, 2020.

Brownie’s career included working in retail management; primarily for Gambles before becoming an insurance agent for American Family and later Van Dyke Insurance before beginning his 8-years of public service as a Commissioner on the Saline County Commission upon election in 2004.

Over a five-decade period Brown’s community and civic efforts in Marshall and Saline County included leadership roles in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, coaching girls’ softball, umpiring girls’ softball, involvement in local political campaigns and grassroot organization efforts, his church where he and Colleen were members of the First Christian Church and as a member of the Kiwanis Club where he had a perfect 50 year attendance record and twice was chosen as the Kiwanian of the Year.

He served on the Marshall Planning & Zoning Commission and Marshall City Council and was recognized as the Citizen of the Year. Brownie never met a stranger and he and Colleen were blessed by many close acquaintances and friendships throughout the years.








He is survived by a daughter Kristina Lynn Lawson of Owasso, OK; two sons William Harry “Bill” Brown (Tammy) of Lee’s Summit, MO and Robert Lee “Bob” Brown (Cathy) of Carthage, MO, seven grandchildren, Christopher (Nicole) Brown of Springfield, MO, Joshua Brown of Carthage, Zachary (Megan) Brown of Greenwood, MO, Brittany (Daniel) Lemanowicz of Lee’s Summit, MO, Tara Colleen (Tyler) Markham of Owasso, OK, Alli Lawson and Kayley Lawson of Owasso, OK, seven great-grandchildren Sadie & Levi Brown of Greenwood, MO, Gabe, Riley and Aedan Markham of Owasso, OK, Baron Brown of Springfield, MO and Oliva Lemanowicz of Lee’s Summit, MO. In addition to his wife Colleen, Brownie was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Elwood Brown.

Celebration services for Brownie will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2024 at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, MO, with William W. Harlow officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Monday prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to the Kiwanis Club of Marshall, the First Christian Church of Marshall, or the Alzheimer’s Association. Following the celebration of Brownie’s life, the family will have a private burial service and interment in Hale, MO. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbelllewis.com.
