Violet Dickson

(From Parker Mortuary)

Violet May Dickson, age 89, of Joplin, MO, entered her heavenly home on Thursday, June 27, 2024.

Violet was born on July 18, 1934, in Joplin, MO, to the late union of John and Mabel (Johnson) McCall. She was a lifetime resident of the Joplin area.

She has been a faithful member of Joplin First Church of the Nazarene since she was 5 years old. Violet loved attending church and worshipping with her family every Sunday, up until her health would not allow. She enjoyed reading in her spare time and playing cards with her family.

She owned and operated Helton’s in Joplin for nearly 30 years. She was an extremely hard worker, raising three children by herself, while always staying upbeat and positive. Violet had a kind heart and was always looking for ways to help others out, whether that be a family member or a person she had never met. There were many times that Violet would generously offer a free meal to someone that needed a little help. She was funny, always laughing and making others smile. You could often find a big smile from ear to ear, while she listened to stories about what her grandchildren had done most recently. She adored her family more than anything.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Steven Spencer.

Violet is survived by her two children, Debra Garrett and husband, Bobby Jr. and Randy Spencer; six grandchildren, Angie Baine Butler and husband, Chad, Bobby Lee Garrett III and wife, Cami, Jeremy Baine and wife, Michelle, Keith Huff, Joseph Spencer, and Matthew Spencer; nine great-grandchildren, Harley, Nathan, Brecklyn, Avery, Lucas, Emiliegh, Hadley, Lane, and Reese; and five great-great-grandchildren, Jackson, Dawson, Connor, Weston, and Leilani.

Visitation will be Monday, July 1, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with the service to follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. at First Church of the Nazarene, 2124 Utica Street, Joplin.

Funeral arrangements are under the special care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
