Steve Nelson

(From Addison Funeral Home)

It is with profound sadness that Steve's family announces his passing on June 4th at the age of 72 in Houston, Texas. Steve was born in Chanute Kansas to Gene & Helen Nelson on December 22nd, 1951. Steve grew up living in Joplin Missouri, Ottawa Kansas and Alva Oklahoma.

It would be difficult to chronicle all of Steve's adventures through his 40 plus year career in the oil & gas industry. He spent time in over 50 countries and made it to 6 of the 7 continents. He lived and worked in places such as Guatemala, Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, India, France, the United Kingdom, Kuwait, South Korea, Nigeria, Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas to name a few.

In Steve's early career he worked as a fluids engineer where he began his travels working for companies such as IMCO, Baroid, Halliburton and Schlumberger. He ended his career working for chevron as a risk engineer on multiple projects spanning the globe. After retiring from the oil & gas industry Steve joined his wife Mirtha as the sales manager of their coffee import business making deliveries and building relationships.

Steve's vast travel and work experience provided much material for his favorite pastime "story telling." Steve was known for his ability to deliver a story whether it was a full house or a one on one. He could recall things in great detail and keep you laughing endlessly or sitting on the edge of your seat. Steve was known for his tender heart and his willingness to always help no matter the circumstances. He never met a stranger and would have you feeling welcome whether he had known you 15 minutes or 15 years...... and yes, he always had a story to share.

Steve was an impactful person and was intentional in making those around him feel special and loved. It was never a bother to go out of his way to make someone feel like they belonged. He was an easy person to love and he will be deeply missed.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Mirtha Elena of Houston Texas, his sister Sherry Nelson of Broken Arrow, OK., his children Jennifer & David Spencer of Lindale TX., Bryan & Charity Nelson of Houston TX., Jessica & Dale Dewar of Perth, Australia, Daniel & Priscilla Bosma of Houston TX, Ezequiel & Lauren Bosma of Houston TX., and Catherine & Freddie Crespo of Houston TX. Steve & Mirtha have 16 Grandchildren: Noah, Gabriel, Micah, Isabella, Chandler, Chloe, Eva, Maxine, Hudson, Hunter, Laureline, Neveah, Emmie, Lillie, Allison and Lucas.

A celebration of life will be planned in the weeks to come for family and friends to come and celebrate Steve's life.
