Alice Williams

Alice Elizabeth (Bennett) Williams passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019.

She was born July 11, 1914 in Auburn, Maine, the daughter of Clarence and Mildred (Hersum) Whitaker. Alice graduated from Lubec, Maine High School in 1933. On September 22, 1935 she and Walter A. Bennett were united in marriage.

Walter and Alice moved to West Mineral, Kansas in 1941. In 1956 they built a new home in Columbus, Kansas. Alice remained in that home until February 2015 when she was moved to the Columbus Medicalodge. Alice was a past worthy matron and 75 year member of Order of Eastern Star, Pursel Chapter #110 of Columbus, and the White Shrine of Pittsburg, Kansas. She was a member of the Columbus Christian Church.

In July 2014 Alice celebrated her 100th birthday. When asked how she wanted to celebrate she replied that she wanted all of her immediate family to be with her as well as all of her still living nieces and nephews. A dinner was held on that day with 52 family members present, that included all of her nieces and nephews. They came from nine different states and Germany. In the afternoon many friends and neighbors joined the group.








Following the death of her husband Walter in 1971, she remained a widow until January 1992 when she married Robert V. Williams.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Walter in 1971, and her second husband, Bob, in 1994, her parents, three brothers (Preston, Harold, and Joseph) one sister, Lois Smith, a son-in-law Lyle Hill, a daughter-in-law Sherry Bennett, a stepdaughter Jeanie (Williams) Blount, and one granddaughter Brenda (Hill) Lantis.

Survivors include two sons, Paul Bennett and wife Mary of Ozark, Missouri, Tommy Bennett of Joplin, Missouri, one step-daughter Jerry (Bennett) Hill of Puxico, Missouri, one step-son, Dave Williams and wife Betsy of Pawnee City, Nebraska; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Lynda Hill and Randy Hill of Puxico, Missouri, Jeff and Rhonda Bennett of Columbus, Kansas, Mike and Debbie Bennett of Sherman, Texas, Rachel and Jim Murray of Carl Junction, Missouri, Rebecca and David Sandberg of Pittsburg, Kansas, and Kelly and Brad Walters of Corrales, New Mexico; thirteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren, as well as many extended family members and a multitude of caring and loving friends.

Cremation arrangements are being handled by Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus, Kansas. Graveside service will be held at the Pavilion at Park Cemetery in Columbus, 10:00 AM, December 16, 2019.
