Norma Sumler

Mrs. Norma Ruth Sumler, 82, of Anderson, Missouri, departed this life on Tuesday evening, December 3, 2019, in the comfort of her home after months of declining health.

Norma began her earthly journey on September 26, 1937, in rural Anderson, Missouri, one of two daughters born to the late Arvil and Lola (Eurit) Kidd. She was raised on the family farm near Anderson and was a 1954, graduate of Rocky Comfort High School. Shortly after high school, she moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where she worked for Hallmark Cards. 

On September 29, 1957, she was united in marriage to Harry Lewis Sumler and to this union one son was born. They resided in Kansas City until purchasing a farm in Anderson, Missouri, in March of 1969. Norma worked several years as a CNA. She started her career at the former Cardwell Hospital in Stella. In 1984, she accepted a position at the Anderson Guest House, remaining there until a devastating fire destroyed the facility in November of 2006. She retired in 2009, from Seneca House in Seneca, Missouri. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, canning, word search puzzles, mowing and watching the Andy Griffith Show. She was a lifelong member of Union Chapel Church, serving many years as church treasurer.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of fifty-nine years, Harry Sumler on August 26, 2017.








Norma is survived by one son, Mark Sumler and wife, Dayna, of Anderson; seven grandchildren, Kayla Keen and husband, Darin, Aaron Sumler and wife, Teresa, Jeremy Whittle and wife, Jamie, Logan Sumler and wife, Randi, Daniel Sumler and wife, Emilee, Joshua Sumler and Rebecca Sumler; seven great grandchildren, James, Jazmyn, Elijah, Jet, Oaklee, Emmalynn and Eleighana; a sister, Dorathy Beaver of Belton, Missouri; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sumler are 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2019, in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery near Stella, Missouri. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Aaron Sumler, Jeremy Whittle, Logan Sumler, Daniel Sumler, Joshua Sumler and Darin Keen.  

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Memorials are being directed to the Union Chapel Church Building Fund c/o the funeral home. On-line condolences may be sent to the family through our website, www.ozarkfuneralhome.com.
