Fred Hively

Winfred J. Hively, age 84, Joplin, formerly of Neosho, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Mount Vernon Veteran's Home.

Fred was born in Violet Hill, Arkansas to the late Albert Hively and Loyce Cooper Hively. He graduated from Neosho High School in 1947, and then served in the United States Air Force from 1947-1955. He was stationed at Lackland Air Base in Texas, and Hunter Air Base in Savannah, Georgia. He was deployed overseas during the Korean Conflict.

He then received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Georgia State University in 1959, He worked for McDonald-Douglas (now Boeing) in St. Louis, Missouri for 27 years before retiring. He returned to Neosho in 1986 to take care of his parents.

Fred enjoyed his family, and spending time with his grandchildren, especially fishing. He also enjoyed the company of his faithful companion Heidi. He and Shirley were active at Forest Park Baptist Church, and he was a member of the Joy Club at the church. He was also a member of the Joplin Elks Lodge #501.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by a son, Frederick Hively, and a daughter, Teri Nichols.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Hively of Joplin; a son, Gary Hively and wife Jean of St. Louis; a daughter, Connie Hively, also of St. Louis; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Monday, February 3, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Forest Park Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. John Swadley and bob Worley officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Monday.

Inurnment of his ashes will follow at Kenney Memorial Cemetery, near Neosho, Missouri.
