Leon was born on November 30, 1930 in Sarcoxie, Mo., the son of the late Ed and Mildred (Holmes) Burkey. He has been a lifetime area resident. He loved going to the “Old Settler’s Pick Nick” every year. He loved picking up wood.
He is survived by one brother, Don Burkey and wife Freda, Diamond, Mo.; one sister, Sharon Carlisle and husband Larry, Sarcoxie, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Cremation will follow the visitation with private family graveside service to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to the “Old Settler’s Pick Nick” fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
