Bill Irvin

William (Bill) G. Irvin, SR. former Seneca, MO resident passed into eternal rest September 23, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin after an illness.

William Gordon Irvin Sr. was born January 15, 1928 in Drumright, Ok the son of Gordon and Lola Pearl (Riley) Irvin. Bill left school to join the Navy and served his country for two years then returned and graduate from Seneca High School in 1948. He then went to a vo-tech school and learn the trade of working on office machines. He worked for Jacob’s Office Supply in Paulsvalley, OK for 11 years. Bill then moved to Seneca in 1961 and went to work for Rocketdyne in Neosho. 

In 1969 he purchased Irvin’s DX station on Main Street of Seneca. Bill also served on the Seneca City Council, Seneca City Judge, Lost Creek Manor Board, Lost Creek Water Shed and the Seneca Recycling Center. Bill was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Blue Lodge # 247 in Neosho, MO. Bill was a member of the Seneca Church of Christ.

William G. Irvin Sr. married Virginia Lee Mailes July 10, 1949 in rural Seneca, MO. and she preceded him in death November 23, 2015. 








Bill was also preceded in death by one son William (Little Bill) Irvin Jr.; one brother Victor Irvin.

Survivors include one son, Wes Irvin and wife Nancy, Seneca, MO; one daughter, Shelly Hoofnagle and husband Hal, Joplin, MO; 7 grandchildren, Michael Slaughter, Lindsay Irvin, Adam Hoofnagle, Michelle Lankford, Lesley Gordon, Coy Irvin and Staci Watson; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Oneeta Olson, Doug Irvin Sr. and Gaylon Irvin and host of extended family and friends.

The body has been taken for cremation under the direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca, MO.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the Swars Prairie Baptist Cemetery with Jake King minister officiating.
