Sally Shedelbower

Sally Ann Shedelbower, 89, died peacefully at her home on September 10, 2020 with her husband at her bedside.

Sally was born on February 9, 1931 to William F. and Christine A. (Blaurock) Netzeband. She was the youngest of their two children. Her parents and sibling predeceased her.

A Joplin native Sally attended the Joplin Junior College and earned an associate degree in accounting. Sally worked at American Zinc, Lead, and Smelting Company as a pay clerk where she met a handsome dozer operator named Russ. 

On January 3, 1953, Sally married William Russell Shedelbower at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Within a few days, Russ was drafted into the US Army; they were stationed first at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs and later at Fort Knox in Kentucky.








In 1955 Sally & Russ moved to the greater Houston area where Sally was a homemaker and mother to their two children; Russ was a Shell employee for thirty years until his retirement in 1987, when they permanently returned to Joplin.

Sally is survived by her husband of sixty-seven years William Russell Shedelbower, her daughter Ann Marie and her husband Michael and her son John Russell and his wife Monica.

Sally was a lifelong member of First Community Church where her parents were original members. She was active within her Church with annual Christmas dinners, women’s fellowship, and multiple service projects. Until recently she managed the collections from Sunday services. She was active in local civic causes including Crosslines and Meals On Wheels. She was a lifetime member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter AS in Joplin and founder of Chapter EB in Houston. Internationally, P.E.O. has supported educational opportunities for women since 1869.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 15th at First Community Church. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sally’s honor to Cottey College, 1000 W. Austin Blvd., Nevada, MO 64772, or a charity of choice.
