Carolyn Heidel

Carolyn Lee Heidel, 82, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away September 28, 2020, at Freeman Hospital following an illness.

Carolyn was born in Joplin on March 6, 1938, to the union of the late Ellsworth and Mary (Duven) Sams. She was a 1956 graduate of Joplin High School. Following high school, Carolyn attended nursing school where she was a former President of the Phi Sigma Pi (Alpha Omierson Chapter). 

Upon graduation, Carolyn became a Licensed Practical Nurse, retiring in 2017. During her lifetime nursing career, she worked for Freeman Health Systems and dedicated 20 years to ICU and another 20 years to the Psych/Behavioral Unit. Carolyn always believed in the importance of education and had a heart for serving others. 






 

Carolyn was married to the late Grant W. Heidel and together they had two daughters, Marsha and Christine.

Carolyn was a wonderful mother and a friend to many. She dedicated her life to caring for others and had a heart of gold. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Carolyn’s creative outlet was crafting and she enjoyed working on projects. She always dressed her best and was an all-around classy lady.

Survivors include her two daughters, Marsha Heidel of Joplin and Christine Colvard (Ben) of Peoria, Texas; two granddaughters, Tiffany Gray of Peoria and Kimberly Dennison (Keith) of Rogers, Arkansas; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and three siblings, Donna Tapprich of Kimberling City, Missouri, Jolene Montoya of Sonora, California, and Lee Sams (Barbara) of Chico, California; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2020, at Forest Park Cemetery in Joplin with Pastor Alan McCamey officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Friday at Parker Mortuary. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
