Gene Sprenkle

Mr. Joseph Eugene “Gene” Sprenkle, 86, of Neosho, Missouri, departed this life on Thursday evening, September 24, 2020, in the comfort of his residence.

Gene entered this life on September 25, 1933, in Neosho, Missouri, son of the late Joseph Emmanuel and Vashti (Fenimore) Sprenkle. He was raised Neosho and was a graduate of Neosho High School. He furthered his education at Crowder College receiving an Associates Degree. 

On October 15, 1955 he was united in marriage to Jo-Ann Henderson and to this union six children were born. Shortly after their marriage they moved to California where Gene was employed by General Telephone. In 1969, they decided to return to Neosho.






 

He was employed by La-Z-Boy as an upholsterer, retiring in 1998. Gene served his country faithfully in the United States Navy aboard the USS Embattle during the Korean War. Gene was an active member of the Neosho LDS Church where he serves as a Primary Instructor. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and was a former Boy Scout Leader.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of fifty-six years, Jo-Ann Sprenkle on March 10, 2012; a brother, Paul Sprenkle; and two sisters, Ruby and Opal Sprenkle.

Gene is survived by his six children, Joe Sprenkle and wife, Edna, of Ontario, Canada, Stephen Sprenkle and wife, Vicki, of Kansas City, Kansas, William Sprenkle and wife, Terri, of Parsons, Kansas, Robert Sprenkle and wife, Virginia, of Billings, Montana, Nancy Layne and husband, Thomas, of Enid, Oklahoma and Le-Ann Newberry and husband, Jamie, of Neosho; twenty-nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Graveside services with full military honors are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at Oakwood Cemetery in Neosho, Missouri. Grandsons will be serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes.
