Mel Newdigger

Melvin 'Mel' Newdigger, Springfield, Missouri, formerly of Joplin, entered into rest on September 18, 2020 at the age of 77. 

Mel was born June 29, 1943 in Joplin, Missouri and was a graduate of Neosho High School, class of 1961 and completed his education at MSSU with a bachelor's degree in business. He served in the U.S. Navy, 1961-1965. He worked in the insurance business as a general manager and retired in 2010 from Farmer's Insurance. He lived in Michigan for fourteen years, but spent most of his life in the Joplin area before retiring to the Springfield area. 

He was a former member of the Rotary Club, was a licensed private pilot, enjoyed golf and was an avid reader. He had a wild sense of humor, never met a stranger and was fondly known as 'Buck' to many of his friends. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. 

Mel and Connie (Brown) were married on December 18, 1965 in Springfield and she survives.






 

In addition, he is survived by two children, Kim Nash and husband, Ross of Springfield and Matt Newdigger and companion, Kay Hill of Roseville, California; one grandson, Austin Nash, twin granddaughters, Ashlee Nash and Allie Nash and a great grandson, Lakken Nash. 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Shelley Daugherty.
