(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Sarah Kay Jones, age 74, of Joplin, MO, passed away on Tuesday August 31, 2021, at her home, following a lengthy illness.
Sarah was born on March 16, 1947, in Pittsburg, KS, the daughter of the late Harold L. Jones and Billie Naoma (Laizure) Jones. Sarah graduated from Carthage High School a member of the ‘Class of 1965’.
She married Willis Paugh and together they were blessed with two children. She worked twenty years for Schreiber Foods Company of Carthage. She was also an accomplished seamstress and did sewing for Precious Moments and Sam Butcher. In addition to sewing, she enjoyed craftwork and crocheting.
Sarah is survived by her son, Jud Paugh and wife Lisa, Carl Junction, MO; her daughter, Dr. Leslie Hamlett and husband Dr. Sean Hamlett, Joplin, MO; her sister, Sally Bewley, Elkins, AR; and three grandchildren; Megan Paugh, Noah Hamlett, and Skylar Hamlett. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Dylan Paugh on June 19, 2017; and by a brother, Harold Kenneth Jones.
The family would like to thank the staff of Dr. Turner, Dr Zaidi and Hospice Compassus. Thank you to the very special caregivers during her final days as well as the wonderful friends and neighbors at Memorial Hills Senior Community.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday September 4, 2021, at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Randy Wilson, Minister and Dr. Sean Hamlett will officiate. Burial will be in Fasken Cemetery in Carthage, MO. The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. Saturday prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Joplin Humane Society in care of the mortuary.
